The Commission is committed to fostering awareness, remembrance, and education about the Holocaust and genocide, and seeks to support initiatives that further these goals. The core mission of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education is to promote Holocaust education in the State of New Jersey.

On a continual basis, the Commission shall survey the status of Holocaust/Genocide Education; design, encourage and promote the implementation of Holocaust and genocide education and awareness; provide programs in New Jersey; and coordinate designated events that will provide appropriate memorialization of the Holocaust on a regular basis throughout the state.

The Commission will provide assistance and advice to the public and private schools and will meet with county and local school officials, and other interested public and private organizations, to assist with the study of the Holocaust and genocide. The Commission invites applications for grants to support events, programs, and initiatives that contribute to Holocaust education and awareness within the State of New Jersey.

Grant funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible applicants whose proposed projects align closely with the mission and objectives of the Commission. This grant opportunity is intended to provide support for events, programs and initiatives taking place between January 19, 2026, and June 30, 2026. The Commission expects to make up to 30 awards.

Applicants are permitted to submit multiple requests. Please submit each request separately. Holocaust and Genocide Resource Centers as of July 1, 2024 recognized by the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education as outlined in attachment A outlined in this announcement.

Organizations meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to submit a comprehensive grant application detailing their proposed event or program. Applications must include: Detailed description of the proposed event or program, including objectives, target audience, and anticipated outcomes. Budget outlining expenses and proposed use of grant funds.

Timeline for implementation, including event date(s) and milestones. Explanation of how the proposed project aligns with the core mission of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. Contact information for the primary project lead.

Applications should be submitted electronically to holocaust@doe. nj. gov no later than January 9, 2026 at 4:00 pm.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The Commission administers discretionary grant programs in strict conformance with procedures designed to ensure accountability and integrity in the use of public funds and, therefore, will not accept late applications. The responsibility for a timely submission resides with the applicant.

Evaluation and Award Process Grant applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a committee appointed by the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. The evaluation criteria will include: Alignment with the core mission and objectives of the Commission. (25 points) Clarity and feasibility of the proposed project.

(25 points) Potential impact on Holocaust education and awareness in the State of New Jersey. (25 Points) Budget appropriateness and fiscal responsibility. (25 Points) Applicants will be notified of the status of their application no later than January 16, 2026.

Successful applicants will be provided with a formal grant agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the funding. All funding is based on reimbursement and will not be distributed in advance. Recipients will be required to submit documentation of expenses incurred in accordance with the grant agreement.

Apportionment of Grant Funds The applicant’s project must be designed and implemented in conformance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Final awards are subject to the availability of funds. Total funds available are $30,000.

This grant is 100 percent funded from the FY 2025 Appropriations Act New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education - 25-100-034-5064-070-H400. This grant opportunity is intended to provide support for events, programs and initiatives taking place between January 19, 2026 to June 30, 2026. All grant funds are subject to a 60-day liquidation period at the end of the grant term.

At this time, a report will be due to close out the grant award. The Commission will not reimburse grantees or sub-grantees for ineligible costs. Grantees are strongly encouraged to contact the Commission if uncertain about the eligibility of a cost prior to incurring the cost in question.

The final determination as to the ineligibility of a cost will be determined by the Commission. All requests for amendments must be submitted at a minimum of 30 days before the end date of the grant agreement. Suspension/Cancellation of Grant/Loan Agreement and/or Reduction in Funding The Commission reserves the right to suspend and/or cancel this grant agreement for nonperformance of any of the grant/loan agreement provisions.

Failure by the grantee to comply with agreement stipulations, standards, or conditions may give the Commission cause to suspend this agreement and withhold further payments, prohibit additional obligations, or project funds pending corrective action, and disallow all or part of the cost associated with the noncompliance, terminate this agreement, or take other remedies that may be legally available.

Formal written notice of suspension/cancellation of grant agreement and/or reduction in funding will be provided to the grantee in advance of the adverse action to be taken together with recommendations to correct deficiencies. Grantees that correct deficiencies in accordance with guidance provided in the written notice shall be reinstated.

Dissemination of This Notice The Commission will make this notice available to eligible applicants based upon the eligibility statement and to the county superintendents of the counties in which the eligible agencies are located.
