Expanding the 3E's Grant Program is sponsored by Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). This grant program helps public schools develop better health and nutrition programs and prevent obesity among Texas children.

Public schools must submit applications by Feb. 28, 2017. “I want to encourage all qualified Texas schools to participate in this great effort to promote good nutrition and healthy lifestyles for young Texans,” Commissioner Miller said.

“Through this program, they can help enhance farm-to-school activities in school and teach children about the importance of exercise and eating nutritious foods that taste good.

” The goal of the grant is to help schools increase awareness of the importance of good nutrition, especially for children, and to encourage children's health and well-being through TDA’s 3E’s of Healthy Living – Education, Exercise and Eating Right. TDA is working with schools to promote better health and prevent obesity among children in this state, and this is just one effort to do so.

Grant funding may be used to supplement or extend coordinated health programs, as well as activities that supplement or extend Farm Fresh Friday initiatives, including farm-to-school educational activities like garden-based learning and classroom lessons.

Public schools that have clearly demonstrated the need and benefit of these grant funds for nutrition education and that are in good standing with the Texas Comptroller’s Office and TDA are eligible to apply. Multiple campuses in a district that are applying for the same project can combine them into one application.

While the maximum amount per campus is $10,000, school districts are limited to $50,000 in cumulative funding under this grant program.
