Holt's Families Not Finances campaign helps children join loving families by removing financial barriers to adoption, particularly for children with disabilities, healthcare needs, who are older, or part of sibling groups.

Funding Adoptions & Caring for Children with Special Needs Holt’s Families Not Finances campaign helps children join the loving families they deserve by removing financial barriers to adoption.

When you give to Families Not Finances , you not only help fund an adoption grant for a waiting child – you also help to provide nurturing care while they wait for a family! It’s a heartbreaking reality that children with disabilities or healthcare needs are relinquished into orphanages at higher rates, and wait longer to be adopted than children who are healthy.

Children who are older or part of sibling groups also wait longer for a family. Because of their increased needs, it just takes longer to help find them the right family. 95% of children waiting for families have special needs Whether they are older than 5, part of a sibling group or have disabilities, most waiting children need help finding a family equipped to meet their needs.

44% of children adopted internationally have moderate to major needs Your gift toward a Holt adoption grant not only helps a family afford to adopt a waiting child — it also frees up funds to provide any needed medical care or therapies for their child once home in the U.S. 36 children joined adoptive families with the help of grants in 2021 In 2021, Holt awarded $146,100 in adoption grants to help 36 children join families — including five $10,000 grants and 31 Special Needs Adoption Fund grants in smaller amounts.

This represents one-fourth of the children who joined families internationally through Holt in 2021.
