Family Self-Sufficiency Initiative is sponsored by Pfaffinger Foundation. Provides small grants and professional case management to low-income working families to help them achieve financial self-sufficiency.

Special Initiatives - Pfaffinger Foundation Family Self-Sufficiency Initiative Pfaffinger Foundation focuses a portion of its annual grant making on special programs. Through our partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, we hope to have a more substantial community impact through our Family Self-Sufficiency Initiative.

This program embodies the core values of the Foundation including support for low income working families in the form of small grants and professional case management to help them overcome hardships to be more stable and self-sufficient. The FSSI program was created in 2001 and was previously known as the Working Poor Program.

Applicants include low income working families who are receiving case management and have goals to achieve financial self-sufficiency and to improve their quality of life. In this program, a network of Foundation selected partner social service agencies recommends their family or individual clients for one-time grants for such necessities as rent, furnishings, or clothing.

Recipient families must have at least one working adult in the household. The intention of the Foundation’s grants is to stabilize the family and prevent homelessness or other negative consequences. The program extends the Foundation’s core competency in making small grants for individuals to an especially needy population.

Because all recipients must be participating in a needs assessment and care planning process, the program also emphasizes the importance of case management, another core value of the Foundation. Application open to our current partner agency case managers
