Eighth Operational Phase of the GEF Small Grants Programme (Tranche II) This GEF-funded Small Grants Programme addresses the interconnected crises of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution by supporting community-led solutions that strengthen socio-ecological resilience.

Through blended finance combining Small Grants Programme (SGP) grants with FAO technical assistance, the FAO-implemented SGP interventions will derisk local investments and build the capacities of civil society and community-based organizations to deliver investment-ready initiatives.

FAO is implementing the GEF SGP across 13 countries under OP8 Tranche II to restore and improve over 350,000 hectares of terrestrial and marine ecosystems and benefit around 45,000 people, prioritizing women, youth, people with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples through inclusive, locally led approaches.

Manual of Standard Operating Procedures for Selected Chemical Residue and Contaminant Analysis Food safety is an important global public health and trade matter, with chemical hazards occupying centre stage due to associated acute and chronic health outcomes. There is also an increasing need to address antimicrobial resistance concerns. While food remains a major vehicle for exposure to these hazards, related matrices cannot be ignored.

Animal feed for instance may contain drug or pesticide residues as well as mycotoxins that could carry-over to food either as parent compounds or their metabolites of toxicological relevance. Contaminated water is also another medium of potential exposure to food hazards. A concerted effort is required to address the need for a safe food supply and one critical stakeholder is the testing laboratory.

While this requires trained and capable analysts as well as reliable instrumentation, analytical methods are a major need. Development and validation – to ensure fitness of purpose – and availability of these methods is a necessity. This manual, consisting of several Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), presents another opportunity for laboratories to address gaps in analytical methods and/or expand their options.

The manual contains techniques for analyzing certain mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, fumonisin and ochratoxin in matrices that include milk, edible vegetable oil and animal feed etc. A range of veterinary drug residues including permitted and prohibited substances in animal matrices including fish, are also addressed. Several pesticide residues in cereals, fruits and vegetables are also covered.

A couple of methods for analysis of selected metals are also presented.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Aviation Crews in Aerial Desert Locust Operations Showing related downloaded files The right to food guidelines Information papers and case studies This publication presents seven information papers and a case studies report that were prepared during the negotiation process preceding the adoption of the Voluntary Guidelines to support the progressive realization of the right to adequate food in the context of national food security.

The information papers cover issues that were controversial during negotiations, or complex legal questions for which clarification was requested. The case studies report summarizes the outcome of st udies commissioned in five countries to gather information about practical in-country experiences with different policies and programmes that are conducive to realizing the population’s right to adequate food.

The full text of the Voluntary Guidelines is also included. Development practitioners in governments, development agencies, civil society and academia concerned with realizing the right to food should find the publication a valuable aid to decision-making.

The Bangkok declaration and the strategy for aquaculture development beyond 2000: the aftermath The document reviews the recommendations contained in the above declaration, which was issued by the Conference on Aquaculture in the Third Millennium held in February 2000 in Bangkok.

The declaration laid down guidelines for the development of aquaculture so that it can help meet the food needs of the growing world population as global capture fisheries production continues to decline.

Yet aquaculture promotion must take into account the increasing pressure on land, water and other natural reso urces and the need to ensure that large-scale aquaculture operations do not have negative environmental and social-economic impacts.

The publication examines the various issues raised by the Bangkok declaration, ranging from recognition of the value of indigenous knowledge, poverty alleviation and the application of modern scientific knowledge, to promoting market development and regional and inter-regional cooperation.

The document includes sections on aquaculture development trends in the four Asian subregions as well as individual accounts of aquaculture in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Viet Nam.
