Fast Grants are lightweight, fast-turnaround gifts for researchers who want to explore an idea at the intersection of AI and health but lack the seed capital to try, and the programme is built around speed as its defining feature: roughly two weeks from deadline to decision. Cycle 1 of 2026 closed 15 June with decisions by 1 July; Cycle 2 closes 15 December 2026 at 11:59pm PT, with decisions around 1 January 2027 and funding approximately 1 February 2027. The foundation organises its interest around two pillars - AI-driven diagnostics and prediction, and personalised therapeutics and autonomous research - but the eligible project list is deliberately wide: training, fine-tuning or evaluating models on biomedical data; exploring or assembling datasets that could unlock new clinical or biological insight; building AI tools or agents that scale a scientist's leverage; and pilot experiments that de-risk a bigger funding ask. That last category is the strategic one. A Fast Grant is explicitly positioned as the preliminary-data vehicle for a subsequent NIH R01 or foundation application, and proposals that name the larger grant they are de-risking read well. The application itself is unusually short - seven bullet-pointed sections with character limits covering title, one-sentence summary, research question, methodology, team background, budget and intended outputs - so the effort-to-expected-value ratio is among the best available in biomedical AI funding.
The Biswas Family Foundation Fast Grants Program provides rapid funding for early-stage research projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence and health. Grants of $25,000, $50,000, and $100,000 support 12-month projects focused on biomedical AI, healthcare innovation, computational medicine, diagnostics, scientific discovery, and AI-enabled research tools. The Foundation runs two Fast Grants funding cycles each year, emphasizing speed and support for promising early-stage and high-risk ideas.
