FEMA Housing Assistance provides financial aid to individuals and families whose homes are damaged or destroyed as a result of a declared emergency or disaster. It can help with rental assistance for temporary housing, lodging expense reimbursement, and home repair or replacement.
This assistance is tax-free and does not need to be repaid, unless used as an advance while awaiting an insurance settlement. Eligibility typically requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien, and for their insurance or other forms of disaster assistance to not fully cover their disaster-caused needs.
