As an independent, non-profit research entity, the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) is dedicated to planning, managing, and facilitating research, specifically in support of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) mission to make the world safer from fire, electrical and related hazards.

We address all the topics that fall under the NFPA purview, including fire protection, emergency response, and virtually everything that challenges safety in the built environment. We discuss the groundbreaking 10-year project to better understand how to effectively clean firefighter PPE. A groundbreaking Fire Protection Research Foundation project provides clarity on testing tools and tactics for electric vehicle fire response.

Guidance on a new generation of firefighting foams from a new Fire Protection Research Foundation report. Our projects and reports are guided by a technical panel that provides its expertise and informed by input from sponsors, the research community, the fire service, NFPA technical committees, and other applicable stakeholders.

Findings from our critically applied research have been used by NFPA technical committee members and others around the world to support the association’s fire and life safety mission. Each year, the Research Foundation Medal recognizes a project that best exemplifies the FPRF mission, commitment to overcoming technical challenges, and collaborative execution of projects.

FPRF leads and supports research that addresses the growing wildfire challenge. Through collaboration with NFPA experts, fire service leaders, government agencies, academia, and industry partners, we generate knowledge and solutions that help communities prepare for, mitigate, and recover from wildfire impacts.

## Energy Transition Summit **_9-11 September 2026 | Oxford, U.K._** Hosted by the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) in partnership with NFPA, the Energy Transition Summit brings together a global community of leaders to address one of the most critical challenges of our time: ensuring that the transition to cleaner energy is both sustainable and safe.

This three-day event will provide a comprehensive, end-to-end view of the energy transition, focusing on how fire, electrical, and life safety must be integrated at every stage.

FPRF cultivates partnerships and works with a wide range of individuals and groups in the fire and life safety community to recognize and prioritize knowledge gaps, identify and address emerging issues, and generate research deliverables that influence lasting solutions to reduce risk in the world.
