The goal of this program is to ease the costs to local governments, promote shared services, and broaden the availability of these courses throughout the state. For this round of funding, emphasis will be placed on providing educational opportunities to volunteer firefighters, as recommended by the Ohio Task Force on Volunteer Fire Service Issues.
Eligible applicant course providers may receive funding for current tuition rates for Firefighter I or Firefighter I Transition certification courses, to include all administrative fees, equipment fees, and book costs. Students must not be assessed any additional costs for the course.
All registered students must be eligible to access all class-provider resources and services at any and all class-provider campuses, including all web-based resources and services, as would any non-award-funded student. Instructional services provided by class providers must also include registration mechanisms and official attendance records.
All class providers must agree to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws in the provision of courses. Eligible applicants are Firefighter I Training certification course providers affiliated with entities including career/technical entities, colleges and universities, and fire departments.
To be eligible, course providers must: Financial Details An unspecified amount of funding is available to support awards through this program. Awards may be for up to $2,000 per student for the Firefighter I Transition level course and up to $2,000 per student for the Firefighter I course.
A total of 50 percent of funds will be distributed upon submission of the grant payment request form, and the remainder will be disbursed upon the submission of the final class roster and other documentation requested by the funding agency. Courses must commence on or after July 1, 2024. Courses must be completed by May 1, 2025.
Award notifications will be made within ten business days of receipt of an application. The funding agency and class providers will not be liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits. * NOFAOH0767_NOFA_FY2025.
