First Nations On-Reserve Housing Program │ Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) The First Nations On-Reserve Housing Program helps provide more and better-quality housing in First Nations communities in most of Canada. In British Columbia, support for better quality housing is provided through the Housing Support Program (formerly known as New Approach for Housing Support).
The On-Reserve Housing Program and the B. C. Housing Support Program are part of ISC’s Capital Facilities and Maintenance Program .
First Nations in all provinces and Yukon that receive annual housing funding allocations through ISC’s 1996 On-Reserve Housing Policy do not need to apply. Information on eligibility for applicants to the B. C.
Housing Support Program . In 1996, the Government of Canada introduced the On-Reserve Housing Policy. It allows First Nations to play a key role in how, where and when housing funds are invested.
The 1996 policy’s principles are: increased access to private sector financing The First Nations On-Reserve Housing Program provides annual funding allocations to First Nations at the beginning of the fiscal year, April 1st. The 2026 allocation has occurred. The next annual allocation is expected on April 1, 2027.

Climate Change and Health Adaptation Program (CCHAP) North is a grant from Indigenous Services Canada that funds First Nation communities to address the health impacts of climate change through capacity building, community-based research, and adaptation planning. One-year grants support vulnerability assessments, land use monitoring, knowledge sharing and education, and development of local and regional adaptation action plans. The program prioritizes Indigenous Knowledge alongside western science and actively encourages the involvement of First Nations children and youth grounded in cultural and traditional teachings.
