Initiative Foundations for Ukraine In brief About the project The war between Russia and Ukraine is in it´s fifth year, and the initially extensive efforts to support Ukraine in general and Ukrainian civil society in particular are declining. As resources decrease overall, more aligned philanthropic action concerning Ukraine is essential.

Therefore, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, in collaboration with the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation (USA), has launched 'Foundations for Ukraine' – a collaborative network of philanthropic organizations dedicated to supporting Ukraine's civil society. Why did we establish F4U?

The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has immensely strained the country's civil society, which plays a crucial role in strengthening social cohesion and promoting resilience. Philanthropic organizations around the world have become active to alleviate acute suffering. However, fragmented efforts and overlapping initiatives often limit their collective impact.

Without adequate support for civil society organizations, their ability to work effectively and respond to ongoing challenges is weakened, with direct consequences for millions of Ukrainians. What is the network's goal?

Foundations for Ukraine is an answer to the needs expressed by many philanthropic organizations in Ukraine, aiming to be a platform for strategic collaboration: more collaboration in advocacy for Ukraine more spaces to learn from each other and understand the evolving challenges in the country more coordination of philanthropic activities to better support local partners F4U does not serve as a fundraising platform but focuses on promoting meaningful partnerships and creating opportunities for members to jointly develop impactful strategies.

What does the collaboration in the network look like? Foundations for Ukraine is open to philanthropic organizations worldwide. The founding group consists of a number of large foundations from Europe, including Ukraine, and North America.

Ukrainian civil society organizations are an integral part of this process, ensuring that the initiatives of the network are guided by local perspectives. The coordination of F4U is managed by the International Alumni Center (iac) Berlin, a competence center for impact-oriented alumni work and networks in philanthropy, founded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
