Applying for a Grant - Friends Foundation for the Aging Friends Foundation for the Aging Application Process for Grants Friends Foundation for the Aging (FFA) is committed to a grant proposal process that is streamlined and flexible. It is designed to provide the FFA Board of Trustees with the information needed to make informed decisions without unnecessary work for you and to begin a relationship with transparency and trust.

Please reach out if you have questions at any stage in the process–info@friendsfoundationaging. org. Grantee organizations must be 501c3 public charities addressing the needs of older adults.

First priority is given to Quaker organizations and then to small (under $5 million operating budget) organizations addressing needs in underserved communities in the Greater Philadelphia-New Jersey region. Projects must reflect a values orientation and advance justice, equity, diversity, inclusion (JEDI). Grantee Partner use of AI is permissible but must be proof-read by a human before submitting.

Some examples of use are summarizing proposals and reports and collecting data to support your request. Your own mission, values, policies, and standards of confidentiality for clients and your organization should not be compromised. Sensitive, confidential or personal identifiable information should not be entered.

Please acknowledge if AI has been used and that it has been reviewed for accuracy by a human. Note: FFA does not accept material gifts (over $25 value) and does not attend fund-raising events. We are delighted to visit and attend free special events such as the opening of a grant-funded garden, and we enjoy seeing newsletters and annual reports.

The process begins with a conversation with the FFA Director. Conversations should occur at least 3 weeks prior to the proposal deadline. Be prepared to describe: Amount of grant request you have in mind.

What is the problem you have identified? Who identified the problem? What is the solution you propose to address the problem?

What actions will you take? Describe the population to be served. Do you have other partners for implementation or funding?

Has the solution been tried by other organizations? How will you know your actions are having an impact? How will you measure outputs and outcomes?

Your organization’s history and competence for this project. Stability, diversity, and leadership of the organization. How does this program fit into the larger mission of the organization?

Reflect organization’s core values and JEDI principles. The proposing organization may then be invited to submit a New Grant Proposal using this form . We may call with follow up questions about the proposal before decisions are made.

Grant proposal deadlines are March 15 and September 15, by email (Word or PDF). The FFA Board makes grant decisions during board meetings in April and October. Grants are awarded for a one-year period, and only one to an organization per year.

If funding is approved, please submit an End of Grant Report using this form no later than 12 months after receiving a grant (if reapplying see below). See reporting page for details on reporting. Returning grantee partners: FFA is aware that it often takes more than a year to establish a new program (but we can’t fund you forever).
