Towards a paradigm shift in mental health care | King Baudouin Foundation The Fund for Mental Health Research was created to support Mental Health Research in Belgium. The Fund is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation with the help of a dedicated Steering Committee.

The Fund is launching its first call for research projects in mental health, supported by the European Science Foundation (ESF), to shift the current paradigm and prioritize underfunded yet critical research areas in mental healthcare, addressing urgent, unmet needs. · Research teams focused on mental health care in Belgium.

· Projects must address at least one of the 10 research priorities (see publication Bridging Gaps in Mental Health: 10 Research Priorities ) · Teams must include researchers from appropriate disciplines and stakeholders (patients, caregivers, policymakers etc.) Grant amount: €400,000–€600,000 per project Duration: Minimum 4 years Eligible costs: All project-related expenses ( including max 17% overhead) 1.

Two-phase submission: Letter of Intent (LoI): 3-page outline (deadline: 8 January 2026 , 5 pm Paris time ). 2. Full proposal: 10-page detailed plan (selected applicants only, deadline: 1 June 2026 ).

Format: Single PDF (font size ≥12).

Submission: Via the ESF online platform 12 November 2025: Mandatory information session (registration required) 13 November 2025: submission platform opens for LoI 8 January 2026: LoI submission deadline 30 March 2026: Feedback on LoI 1 june 2026: Full proposal submission deadline July 2026: Results announced Scientific quality: Alignment with priorities, innovation, team expertise, feasibility Impact potential: Stakeholder engagement, real-world applicability, dissemination plan Review process: Assessed by scientific and impact panels 6.
