Fund For Safe Communities | Minneapolis Foundation Fund For Safe Communities Preventing violence, promoting healing The Fund for Safe Communities was established in 2018 to support tangible, specific, and meaningful actions to address and prevent violence.

The inaugural grant round took place in the spring of 2020 under the leadership of an advisory committee made up of emerging leaders who have personal experience with community violence. Through this fund, we distribute grants for direct service programs, communication, advocacy, and organizing led by community-based organizations.

We prioritize efforts that are led and influenced by Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and which are grounded in the needs of diverse Minneapolis neighborhoods. This fund aims to prevent community violence. This fund supports organizations and efforts focused on addressing systemic inequities and reforming the criminal justice system.

This fund supports efforts to heal individuals and communities affected by horrific tragedies, including the killing of George Floyd. Fund for Safe Communities Awards Grants to Prevent Violence Funding will support seven organizations that are doing innovative work to prevent violence and promote healing in local communities.

The Minneapolis Foundation today announced $526,543 in grants from the Fund for Safe Communities to 18 organizations that are doing innovative work to prevent violence and foster resilience in local communities. Fostering Resilience Grant Round The Fund for Safe Communities is now accepting applications for grants that foster resilience.

We will support programs and activities that offer prevention, intervention, restoration, and resilience-oriented services to people in Minneapolis, with a focus on youth and young adults. Watch Our Grantees in Action The Indigenous Protector Movement is dedicated to creating a community where Indigenous youth and young adults feel safe, valued, and empowered to shape their own futures.

Urban Youth Conservation works with the community, judicial members, and local police departments to help reduce violence and recidivism. Housed at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, the Youth Empowerment and Re-entry Initiative supports young people ages 11-30, particularly those who are justice-involved or at risk of engagement with the criminal justice system.

Indigenous Protector Movement Youth Empowerment and Re-entry Initiative Inspired in part by the leadership shown by students who were affected by the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Fund for Safe Communities emphasizes the importance of work led by emerging leaders.

The Fund is advised by a committee of young adults who, in a variety of ways, have been personally affected by community-based violence in Minneapolis.
