# CALL FOR PROJECTS ON PARKINSON’S DISEASE 2024-2025 The Funds Jacqueline Cigrang, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, wants to support scientific research on Parkinson’s disease at French universities and research centres in Wallonia and Brussels . This is the first call for projects.
This call will support fundamental research projects aimed at improving the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of Parkinson's disease (including parkinsonism). Projects submitted should offer a perspective on research into disease-modulating treatments.
Scientific quality of the project - Design, including a timeline, statistics, sample, calculation - Feasibility of the proposed project to be finalized by end of June 2027. - Innovative character of the project. Relevance/added-value of the research project to existing knowledge/clinical practices - The project addresses clearly identified medical, allied health or psychological issues related to Parkinson’s disease.
- The rationale why the patient perspective is taken into account (or not taken into account) in the design of the project, is clearly explained in the proposal. Involvement of stakeholders List of stakeholders and clear description of how they will be involved in research and how their expertise will be taken into account.
Potential of the main applicant and research team - Previous research achievements of the main applicant since the start of its career. - Career potential of the main applicant (creativity, management skills, (inter)national visibility, etc) - Potential of the research team & collaborating teams: scientific environment, competence, experience, added-value from the collaboration.
- Potential impact of the results on diagnostic/prognosis/treatment. o of the research on quality of care/quality of life. o of the research for patients, their family and/or professionals.
o of the research on society. # Fund Jacqueline Cigrang Perspective of implementation of the results - the proposal has to include a clear plan for the implementation of the study results. Dissemination of the study result - The proposal has to include a clear plan for the communication of the study results, including negative results.
- The study must be finalised by the end of June 2027. A further 6 months may be foreseen for dissemination activities (i.e. until end 2027). - The study results should be published in an international peer-reviewed journal, relevant to the research area.
Justification of the budget Ethical questions - A description of ethical issues, if any, are taken into account. If the project has to be submitted to an Ethics Committee, researchers should: - mention the N° of submission to the ethical committee in the application file - send approval of the ethical committee before the project can start (but not before the introduction of the application).
- A description of how gender/diversity issues, if any, are taken into account. The Foundation will only fund not-for-profit organizations. For-profit organizations (e.g. pharmaceutical companies) can be part of a research team but are excluded from funding.
- The call is open to researchers and health professionals in Wallonia and Brussels with a demonstrated interest and scientific track record in Parkinson’s disease. - The applicant has obtained at least a doctoral degree. Projects granted in 2023 in the framework of a call of the KBF are not eligible for this call.
The main applicant is supported by a head of department. The project is initiated and coordinated in a French institute located in Wallonia or Brussels. - Collaborative projects are encouraged, i.e. collaboration between teams and/or between researchers from different disciplines and perspectives.
- Projects that involve collaboration between different research centres must be initiated and coordinated by a team based in Flanders or Brussels. - Costs incurred by institutes other than French institutes located in Wallonia or Brussels are excluded from funding. Grant - A total budget of maximum € 170.
000 is available for this call to support 1 project. - Support can be used for all categories of costs related to the project. - No overhead can be deduced from grants up to € 50.

Candidates will receive an acknowledgement of the receipt. Applications will be submitted to an independent scientific jury. The jury will assess the projects and will draw up recommendations for the General Steering Committee of the Funds for neurology research, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation.
