FutureFoodS Call 2025 | NWO This Call will be open to applications relating to one of the topics described below.
Topic 1: Domestic food practices enhancing sustainable and healthy diets Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems Topic 3: Trust and transparency in sustainable food systems Please note that primary production activities such as the growing of food crops (including seafood), other elements of agricultural production and various specific aspects related to it, as well as nutrition- and lifestyle-related diseases are not in focus in this partnership.
The focus of FutureFoodS is on issues post-harvest. Primary production aspects are covered in other Horizon Europe partnerships.
The following countries will participate in this call: Austria , Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey Research consortia must be comprised of a minimum of three partners from at least three Member States or Associated Countries participating in the call and be eligible to request funding from the FOs participating in this call and providing funding for the selected topic.
For applicants from Dutch universities and eligible knowledge institutions, funding is available from NWO – see the NWO section of the Annex I of the Call for proposals for the possibilities. The added value of transnational collaboration should be clearly stated in the application. For research proposals in this round, applicants to NWO can apply for a maximum of € 400,000 in funding.
The submission deadline for pre-proposals is 11 February, 2026, at 13:00 CET . The submission deadline for full proposals is 27 July 2026, at 13:00 CEST Full proposals will be evaluated against the following three equally weighted evaluation criteria: quality and efficiency of the implementation (for full proposals only). Only consortia that were successful in the first stage will be invited to submit a full proposal. Eligible proposals – both in the first and in the second stage – will be assessed by an independent evaluation committee. More information about this call is available at the websites https://www.

In case of self-funded partners, a Letter of Commitment (see Annex E) should be submitted in the full proposal phase. Please read carefully the provisions of the NWO part of Annex I, where it is explained which additional documents should be submitted to NOW (at futurefoods@nwo. nl ) in case of national co-applicants to NWO, as well as the relevant deadlines.
Applicants who apply for funding at NWO must submit a completed NWO budget form separately at NWO when submitting their full proposal. This form can be found under ‘Downloads for your application’. Please send this form to futurefoods@nwo.
nl Mandatory consortium-building activities The partners in the approved projects will be asked to sign a consortium agreement before the start of the projects. More information will be provided in the award letter. A two-phase procedure will be followed for this Call for Proposals.
In the first phase, consortia will be invited to submit pre-proposals. A pre-proposal includes a description of the partners, a brief project description and budget indications as described in the detailed pre-proposal template in Annex C, and in other relevant documents available in the submission platform: https://futurefoods. ptj.
de . The pre-proposals that are eligible according to the transnational and national/regional criteria will be assessed by an Expert Panel, consisting of recognized international experts in relevant fields. The decision for the invitation to submit a full proposal in the second phase will be taken jointly by the participating funders and communicated to the main applicant of the transnational consortium.
