Grant Request Guidelines for Cogswell Benevolent Trust Nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, and public agencies are eligible to apply for grants. Requests to fund general operating or start-up expenses, feasibility studies, endowments, conferences, produce films or videos, or to eliminate deficits are rarely considered. Nor is it our goal to become a permanent source of support for programs.
Usually, the established program must be located within the State of New Hampshire. However, limited funds may be available for out of state projects. Unless it is an emergency, it is the Trust’s policy not to make grants to the same organization in succeeding years.
An application letter with appropriate enclosures should be submitted to the Cogswell Benevolent Trust. Applicants should carefully explain the purpose of the project and describe how it will be accomplished. In all cases, an itemized income and expense budget and last available audited financial statement or 990-PF should be included, along with a copy of the IRS exemption letter (501(c)(3)).
If you have applied to other foundations, please specify which organizations and how much you are requesting or have already received from them. It is not necessary to send extra copies of the application letter, nor should funds be expended by sending it UPS, FedEx, express, priority, registered, or certified mail.
