General Operating Support Grant (awarded to EveryLibrary Institute) is sponsored by Mellon Foundation. This grant was awarded to the EveryLibrary Institute to strengthen and expand its national efforts to champion libraries, promote reading, safeguard library funding, and support library professionals and staff.

The grant will allow the nonprofit to enhance its capacity for research, training, and advocacy programs, while also supporting its mission to champion libraries, library workers, and the communities they serve. “The Mellon Foundation’s support is a powerful endorsement of our current efforts and a vote of confidence in our future,” John Chrastka, executive director of EveryLibrary, said in a statement.

“This investment will allow us to address immediate needs while also building a more effective, strategic, and sustainable future for our organization and the libraries and the readers we serve. ” The funding follows several other grants awarded by the Mellon Foundation this past year, much of which covers gaps left by cuts in federal funding by the Trump administration .

In April, the Foundation announced a $15 million emergency funding commitment to the Federation of State Humanities Councils. This summer, PEN America also received a $1. 4 million grant , and former librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, who was fired by the White House, was appointed as the Foundation’s senior fellow .
