Email [email protected] The Gotham is partnering with Genesis House to provide finishing funds for three (3) NYC-set narrative/scripted short films in the final stages of production and/or distribution. Each project will receive a $10,000 grant for finishing funds, specialized mentorship, industry only screening during Gotham Week, and have the opportunity to attend in-person events at Genesis House.
Applicants are encouraged to submit projects that are at the forefront of innovation and creation, leading with a modestly confident approach to aesthetics and a harmonious sentiment towards storytelling. Projects should be compelling, thoughtful, intentional, and embody the ethos of Genesis House: Audacious and Progressive . Audacious Have the audacity to stick out, to be bold, brave, passionate, and courageous.

Applications are FREE, and Gotham Membership is not required.
Selected fellows will participate in a rigorous program featuring: — $10,000 grant towards finishing funds of a narrative short film shot in the New York City area — Specialized mentorship sessions with industry professionals — Completed short films will screen for select industry professionals during Gotham Week (September 27 – October 3, 2026) — Two (2) in-person dinners with industry leaders and mentors at Genesis House in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan — Visibility throughout Gotham Week and acknowledgement at Gotham Week Honors — Applicants must be U.S.-based, meaning either a U.S. citizen and/or currently living & authorized to work in the United States.
— Films must have been shot and set in the New York City area, including the 5 boroughs (Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), surrounding counties (Westchester, Suffolk, Nassau), New Jersey, and Connecticut. — Film must be a narrative or scripted project. No documentaries will be accepted.
— Film must not premiere before Gotham Week (September 27 – October 3, 2026). — Filmmakers must be available in person during Gotham Week. — Principal photography must have been completed between April 1, 2025 and April 1, 2026.
— A password-protected screening link to an assembly/rough cut of film. — Optional: Pitch deck, lookbook, etc. — Applications close on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern. CLICK HERE to access the application.

If I’m in school, can I submit? Yes, as long as you meet the requirements . Can you define the NYC area?
Anywhere in the Tri-State area, including the five boroughs, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk), Westchester County, Yonkers, Hudson Valley, Upstate/NY State, Connecticut, and New Jersey. What should I be prepared to submit in the application? — Personal/Artistic Statement — Link to password-protected rough cut or assembly cut of the film — Film credits – who do you have working with you on your film so far?
— Why you want to participate in the program What if I have multiple producers on this project, should I include them? Yes, please include all of your producers and cast/crew you’re already working with. What if I shot the film outside of the New York city vicinity, but I live in/near the city.
Can I still submit Unfortunately, we are looking for projects that are shot in the area. I still want to submit my film to major festivals. If I receive these funds, will I become ineligible to submit to Sundance, Tribeca, etc.?
Your film would maintain its premiere status; it will only screen privately for a select group of industry professionals, including programmers . Can I submit a proof-of-concept for this program? Yes, as long as it meets the requirements.
My film is fully finished and/or has premiered before. Am I still eligible? Funds must go to the finishing cost of the film, and the film must not have premiered before Gotham Week, so unfortunately it would not be eligible.
Will Genesis House or The Gotham own my film? No, you retain the rights to your film. At most, we may ask for our logos to be in the credits.
When do applications close? Applications will close on the evening of Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11:59pm ET. There will be no exceptions for late submissions.
When will I be notified about the program? We will send out notifications by late June . APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!
