Call for Merit Reviewers (2026) Want to help the Office of Geothermal select its research, development, and demonstration projects? Apply to be a reviewer! Office of Geothermal projects are funded through competitive solicitations, and an important part of that competitive process is an independent merit review.
The Office of Geothermal relies on reviewer expertise to ensure its funded portfolio advances geothermal innovation while ensuring good stewardship of taxpayer dollars. A range of experts are eligible, including engineers, scientists, researchers, analysts, and other professionals (particularly those with financial or policy backgrounds) from the geothermal, oil and gas, and mining industries.
If you’d like to get involved, submit a brief introduction with your area(s) of expertise and current CV or resume to DOE. geothermal@ee. doe.

Infographic: Office of Geothermal Project Lifecycle Office of Geothermal Presentations Funding for Small Business Research in Geothermal Energy Office of Geothermal Contacts Geothermal Success Stories Awardee Communications Resources Opportunities for Communities The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs help small businesses conduct research and development (R&D) by providing competitively selected grants for projects that have the potential for commercialization and meet specific DOE mission-specific R&D needs.
Specific research topics are selected through the DOE SBIR/STTR Programs Office working collaboratively with DOE's program offices. Office of Geothermal - Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office Critical Minerals & Materials Accelerator Topic Area 1 , Topic Area 2 , Topic Area 3 Letters of Intent are due April 24, 2026.
Deadlines for full applications will be staggered based on topic area; Topic Areas 3A and 3B focus on mineral extraction combined with geothermal energy.
