Mayor Greenberg Announces Recipients Of New Get Busy Initiative Grants # Mayor Greenberg announces recipients of new Get Busy Initiative grants **LOUISVILLE, KY (September 4, 2025) –** Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Violence Prevention awarded three $116,000 grants to help support grassroot community programs focused on middle school students.

Each program is a collaboration of at least three different organizations and offers a mentorship component. This is another program that fits into the mayor’s Safe Louisville plan.

“My Safe Louisville plan, focused on continuing to reduce crime in our community, is about comprehensively addressing the root causes of violence – and we know must continue to invest in community organizations that are providing safe spaces and programming for young people,” said Mayor Greenberg. “These three new initiatives provide real solutions for children in neighborhoods who are in need of positive opportunities.

” A project from Fund for the Arts, Leading Ladies/Working Men, Prominent Youth of America, the Speed Art Museum, Park Hill Community Center, and Be the Change called Making Safe Lives will help the Algonquin/Park Hill area. It’s an afterschool and weekend program that combines mentorship, arts engagement, trauma-informed care, and positive community connections.

Youth will have the chance to learn DJ skills, music recording, and digital media skills. The program selected for the Southside/Americana area is called Art Opens Doors: Creative Pathways to Healthy Minds. It’s put on by the Americana Community Center, Louisville Folk School, Adelante Hispanic Achievers, and The Route.

The program will provide a new culturally responsive out-of-school arts and mentoring program, including arts instruction, personalized mentoring, and social-emotional learning. The final grant will support the Russell neighborhood through Amped Music Academy, Play Cousins Collective, Louisville Metro Housing Authority, and Enhances Impact Through Collaboration.

They will collaborate on new programming at the Amped Music Academy at the Baxter Community Center. The program will run on afternoons and weekends, as well as the summer. Youth will learn to play music, interview elders in their community, and show off their work at community showcases each semester.

"As a community, having the support of Mayor Greenberg and the Office of Violence Prevention means we are not alone in the work of creating safer and healthier neighborhoods,” said Karen Moya, interim executive director of the Americana Community Center. “This partnership shows our families and young people that their future matters and that we can come together to build a stronger community for everyone.

Americana is truly grateful for this collaboration and the positive impact we will make together." “Amped Music Academy is beyond grateful for the opportunity to provide programming to the Russell neighborhood and continue in our mission to provide a safe space for young creatives to express and develop their artistic skills,” said David Christopher Jr., music program manager at Amped.

“Having this space available for the youth living in Russell is both culturally beneficial and socially enriching for a community of students who have historically been without the arts in their neighborhood." “The Get Busy grant helps us answer families’ calls for more programming for older youth.

This is real violence prevention, centering youth and families in their power and purpose,” said Kristen Williams, executive director of Play Cousins Collective. “Arts programming from teaching artists dedicated to their community offers new, healthy avenues of expression, builds meaningful connections, and creates space for healing,” said Clarity Hagan with Fund for the Arts.

“This support from Mayor Greenberg and the Office of Violence Prevention allows Fund for the Arts to help facilitate free arts programming in the Parkhill Community Center, building on previous community relationships. Offering access to free and relevant arts programming serves as a pivotal violence prevention tool.
