Through our donations, we are a catalyst for change in the communities where we live and work.

Building Community Donations Pillars Our Building Community Donation program is anchored in our pillars of Science and Innovation, Access and Health Equity, and People and Culture. Through our Science and Innovation donations, we build a pipeline of diverse talent for future innovation. Grants support equitable K-12+ STEM education, experiences and opportunities.

Through our Access and Health Equity donations, we advance holistic community health. Grants support safety net organizations providing food, shelter, healthcare and other social services. Through our People and Culture donations, we promote civic engagement to create an inclusive and sustainable future.

Grants support regional public-private partnerships, economic and environmental sustainability, and youth leadership programs. Our community partners provide vital services and address immediate needs while working towards dismantling the causes of inequalities in the past, present and future.

By fostering the next generation of scientists, doctors and researchers, strengthening social services and promoting civic engagement for an inclusive and sustainable future, we advance in our mission to achieve a healthier world for all people.

Healthcare Education, Access and Leadership (HEAL) Initiative The Gilead Foundation awarded $5 million in grant funding to 20 organizations working to increase healthcare education opportunities and create a linked healthcare career pathway for underrepresented students in the San Francisco Bay Area region.

These grants represent the first round of funding for the HEAL Initiative, a two-year commitment toward developing a diverse, culturally-competent Bay Area healthcare workforce that is more representative of the patient population and can help lower barriers to healthcare access for underserved communities. There is a critical shortage of racially diverse healthcare workers in the Bay Area region.

Through this investment, HEAL grantee organizations will work to develop skilled healthcare professionals from underserved communities through increasing access to healthcare opportunities and promoting healthcare as a valuable career option for students residing in San Mateo, San Francisco and Alameda counties.
