The time it takes us to make a funding decision varies significantly depending on the complexity of the proposed activities/organization and also on each applicant’s needs.

Where possible, we suggest applying three months before you need a final decision from us, and some of our decisions do take this long. However, if you’re working to a shorter timeframe we’d still strongly encourage you to apply. We are typically able to work within deadlines as short as a month (or even less) if there are good reasons to do so, although we cannot guarantee this is in all cases.

You can indicate on our application form your ideal and hard deadlines, and explain the reasons for them. If we decide to offer funding, our grants team will follow-up to collect and confirm basic details to complete any required due diligence.

Grants are generally paid within one month of receiving the required information, though grants to certain types of entities (including international organizations, universities, and for-profit organizations) require additional due diligence and generally take longer. Our grants team is able to make payments urgently in some cases, but is generally unable to pay grants in less than 5 business days, even in urgent cases.

If awarded funding, we expect organizations to have organizational policies that meet the minimum standards described in this document. Before receiving funding, we’ll require you to confirm your intent to comply with these standards as soon as is practicable, and no later than by the next time you’d like to be considered for funding (this includes potential grant renewals).

If you are a project at an organization or a sub-organization at an organization, we require only the parts of the organization relevant to the funded activities to comply; please see our FAQ for details. If you are a fiscally sponsored project, we only require your project to comply, not the entire organization that sponsors you.
