The Global Entrepreneurship Program (GEP) is a U.S. State Department-led effort to promote and spur entrepreneurship by catalyzing and coordinating private sector and U.S. Government programs to support entrepreneurs around the world. In the spirit of fulfilling the administration’s commitment to leverage America’s entrepreneurial culture, the GEP was launched in April 2010 at the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship.
It was then reinforced by the positioning of Economic Statecraft at the heart of the U.S. foreign policy agenda, selecting entrepreneurship as an important economic tool, developing economic opportunity and creating jobs in emerging markets.
## **Creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem** GEP supports establishing integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem by focusing on seven key areas of entrepreneurial development: **_identifying_**, **_training_**, **_connecting_****_and sustaining, guiding to financing, facilitating market access, enabling supportive policy, and celebrating entrepreneurs.
_** ## **Working with partners** GEP’s partners include both domestic and global NGOs, corporations, foundations, educational institutions and investors. To develop entrepreneurship ecosystems, GEP partner organizations are asked to further their activities, either by expanding current programs to a new country, or deepening existing programs in their current countries of operation.
## **GEP-driven programs** To fill programmatic gaps in entrepreneurship promotion abroad, GEP works with U.S. Embassies and partners to create new programs. A few illustrative examples include: * **Angel Networks**: generating new networks, or expanding to developing countries.
* **Enterprise Development Network**: promoting GEP partner activities by providing instant access to information, tools, and experienced professional assistance, as well as the capital necessary for success. To access the EDN platform, please visit: http://ednaccess. com/gep.
* **Entrepreneurship Delegations:**GEP led entrepreneurship delegations to Jordan, Lebanon,**Egypt**,**Indonesia**,**Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria**,**Turkey**, Greece, and Portugal. * **Mentoring Collaborations:**expanding the reach of mentoring organizations around the world. * **Women’s Entrepreneurship:**Promoting the success of potential high growth, high impact women-owned enterprises to foster growth in GDP and jobs globally.
Several initiatives include the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Program, the WeAmericas Program, the International Council on Women’s Business Leadership, and the APEC Women Leader Network.
