The Google Mumbai Data Challenge, run by Google with programme partner Beyond and hosted on Zindi, asks participants to build machine learning models that forecast hourly PM2. 5 concentrations across Mumbai's air-quality monitoring stations. Training data is historical observations from India's Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) network.
Predictions may use only information available at the time of prediction, and only the challenge datasets may be used. Individuals or teams of up to four compete for a US$6,000 prize pool: $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 for the top three, $500 for the best undergraduate entry and $500 for the best additional submission, plus Zindi points.
The challenge launches on 26 October 2026 and closes on 13 November 2026, when the private leaderboard is revealed. An in-person finale is planned in Mumbai on 20 November 2026, with format and venue still to be confirmed. The top 10 must submit code for review.
It suits data scientists working on AI for environmental health, urban sustainability and air pollution forecasting.
