Grant Program (Recreation Foundation of BC)

Grant Program (Recreation Foundation of BC) is sponsored by Recreation Foundation of BC. Provides support to non-profit organizations active in the areas of recreation, sports, parks, culture, the environment, and associated education within British Columbia.

Examples include programs introducing vulnerable youth to mountain biking, increasing outdoor time for children and caregivers, and supporting healthy living for new immigrant women through sport.

Grant Program - Funding for Non-Profit Organizations The Recreation Foundation of BC’s Grant Program was established in 2011 to provide support to non-profit organizations active in the areas of recreation, sports, parks, culture, the environment, and associated education. Since the inception of this program, RFBC has granted over $600,000 in total funding to organizations across British Columbia.

In 2019, the Foundation approved approximately $94,000 in grants to the deserving organizations listed below. The primary objective of these grants is to invest in new and current program by providing financial support to parks, recreation and culture programs throughout British Columbia. RFBC gives equal weight (25% each) to four key areas: Participation—Does it reach a significant portion of the community?

Impact—What level of impact does it have on the community? Design—Does it have a good program plan? Budget—Can organizations make it work if full funding from RFBC is not achieved?

RFBC considers the following when evaluating submissions: Awarding to a variety and wide range of submissions. Awarding to organizations across the province. The impact on that community.

Grant and scholarship submissions have been postponed until 2027. British Columbia recreation and parks association In addition to the Grant Program, the RFBC supports the work of the BCRPA on an annual basis. In 2020, the Foundation gave $10,000 in funding to the BCRPA to support its programs, services, and advocating.

This funding was generated from interest earned in the Vancouver Foundation-managed Endowment Fund. The Board of Directors of the RFBC is pleased to announce the funding recipients through our 2024 Grant Program. Fernie & District Arts Council Community painting project by local teens to improve a community space at the Fernie Memorial Arena.

Island Rhythmic Gymnastics Open additional classes for the Neuro-diverse Program for children on the autism spectrum or with sensory needs. North Slocan Trails Society Build two sections of adaptive-inclusive trail to connect each end of the BMU trail to the existing trailhead. Elevation Outdoors Experiential Live to Ride program to introduce 20 vulnerable local youth to mountain biking, providing transportation, food, and equipment.

Mackenzie Community Arts Council Increase outdoor time by familiarizing children and caregivers with nature to increase confidence, safety, and comfort levels, removing economic barriers to participation. Purchase additional equipment for the gear rental program to remove barriers to engaging in outdoor activities.

Support healthy living for new immigrant women, high school girls’ participation in sport, and train girls and women to referee and coach, creating a mentorship program. Rock On Collective Climbing Association Free rock climbing mentorship program for gender-diverse people and women ages 19+ in the Okanagan, providing climbing courses and a land stewardship workshop.

Building Caring Communities / PosAbilities Provide free one-on-one intro to kayaking for individuals facing barriers due to cost and accessibility. Friends of Sooke Parks Society Build awareness and appreciation of local parks through welcoming, free park-based events and fire smart park clean-ups. It truly is a life-changing experience as youths leave the camp with greater confidence, new connections, and a deeper sense of community.

With the funds from BC Recreation Foundation, we will be able to take 25 youth to camp where they will learn new skills, build connections with community leaders, and foster meaningful relationships with other youth who share similar experiences, all while enjoying a classic Canadian camping experience!

Enable Program for Children and Youth Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Center Society The Morse Creek Restoration Project is a great example of community collaboration and stewardship of a high-use local park and stream. ARMS has been in partnership with Eric Langton Elementary School since 2017, delivering free environmental workshops centred on stream health in this area.

This is a great way for us to continue to connect with more of our future generation for the good of Alouette River and the small creeks which feed it. This project would not have been possible without the support of the Pacific Salmon Foundation, Mustang Survival, and the RFBC.

The Morse Creek Restoration Project Alouette River Management Society On behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley, I want to send a heartfelt thank you for supporting our Go Girls and Game On group mentoring programs. These programs promote active living, balanced eating, and positive self-image by ensuring that children in our community have access to positive, healthy role models.
