Grant Development | Center for Social Science Innovation - Office of the Vice President for Research | The University of Iowa Center for Social Science Innovation Securing funding is a highly rewarding but often formidable part of the research process. CSSI's grant development team is a dedicated partner for faculty, scientific staff, and graduate students to simplify the grant writing experience from beginning to end.
In the past five years, over 120 researchers who have utilized our grant development services have successfully been awarded grants, totaling $26. 9 million in funds . Proposals have been successfully funded by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, National Institute of Health, National Endowment for the Humanities, the Russell Sage Foundation, Wenner-Gren Foundation, Ford Foundation, and more.

Our staff is here to help you identify relevant grant and fellowship opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and private organizations aligning with your project's goals and scope. CSSI offers help with facilities statements and other proposal documents to streamline the grant application process.
Our team also provides consulting and feedback to those preparing grant budgets and justifications to create an accurate and realistic financial plan, ultimately working to ensure the proposal meets all requirements of the funding opportunity. The Center for Social Science Innovation hosts a weekly Grant Writers' Circle both in-person at our center and virtually to provide social science faculty with time to write, receive constructive feedback, and focus on their goals.
Other Grant Development Resources External Grant Review (Research Development Office) The Research Development Office (RDO) assists University of Iowa faculty with preparing more ambitious, collaborative, and successful proposals. To assist faculty in submitting proposals that are more successful, the RDO facilitates external reviews for proposals to external funding agencies.

Improving Grantsmanship Recurring Programs and Seminars (Research Development Office) The Research Development Office in the Office of the Vice President for Research assists researchers in preparing competitive proposals. The Robotics Grant Program is a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) that funds school-based robotics programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. Awarded through a competitive application process, the program provides up to $3,500 to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) in Alabama. Applicants must be public school systems submitting on behalf of schools with K–12 students. The grant supports the purchase of robotics equipment and program development aligned with AMSTI guidelines. Applications are submitted online through the AMSTI Robotics Grant portal. The Fiscal Year 2026 application deadline was September 30, 2025. Questions should be directed to robotics@amsti.org. The program is managed by the Alabama State Department of Education under State Superintendent Eric G. Mackey.
