Rosa Benitez Joining UniHealth in July 2026 UniHealth Foundation is pleased to announce that Rosa Benitez will be joining our staff in July 2026 as our new Senior Program Manager. Benitez will serve as a key leader in UniHealth’s grantmaking, working with hospitals, universities, and community-based organizations toward a vision of improving health outcomes in Southern California. Drew University of Medicine & Science UniHealth Foundation announces a $1 million grant to Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science (CDU) for Phase II of the CDU Wellness and Education Campus Expansion Project. Founded in 1966 in the aftermath of the Watts Riots, CDU is a private, nonprofit, community-founded institution dedicated to educating health professionals who are committed to social justice and health equity.

CDU, in collaboration with Compton Unified School District and Century Housing, has embarked on a multiphase initiative to invest in healthcare providers serving the Watts-Willowbrook community. With the acquisition of 13 acres, the project will create student, workforce, and senior housing; additional research and clinical space; a sports complex; and parking to support campus growth.

UniHealth’s grant will support Phase II, with emphasis on community engagement and project management. The expansion will double CDU enrollment and create measurable improvements in healthcare access, workforce development, and community health. “For decades, this community has faced barriers to quality healthcare, not just as patients, but as aspiring health professionals.

CDU’s Wellness and Education Campus Expansion Project changes that,” said Dr. David M. Carlisle, CDU President and CEO. “Our institution was founded on the belief that doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who come from underserved communities are best equipped to serve them.
