Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Gaithersburg HELP - Gaithersburg HELP Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Gaithersburg HELP Nourishing our Neighbors grant increases access to nutritious food; provides nutritional education Gaithersburg, Maryland – Gaithersburg HELP has received $3,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger.

The Nourishing our Neighbors grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food, nutritional education and resources to help them get back on their feet. This grant will allow Gaithersburg HELP to purchase and distribute enough food to needy households to prepare more than 2,000 nutritious meals.

Gaithersburg HELP was formed in 1968 as an all-volunteer nonprofit organization to address the problem of food insecurity in the community. As an all-volunteer organization, all funding goes directly to meeting the food security needs of low-income individuals and families. Our more than 200 active volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, and they perform all the responsibilities of our food assistance program.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $25 million in grant funding to help nourish communities with fresh food.

Gaithersburg HELP’s Food Pantry Program is an immediate, first line of defense against hunger in our community. Our clients do not need to fill out forms or wait for approvals. If they call with a need for food, they are scheduled immediately for pickup that same evening whenever possible.
