This creates both a demand and opportunity for organizations whose focus is primarily serving this target group. Sigma and collaborating nursing organizations have several upcoming research grant opportunities for nurses around the globe. The Jean Griswold Foundation is a public, non-profit foundation whose primary goal is to support caregivers and better their lives. It is a place for caregivers to turn to experiencing personal hardship or needing financial assistance for educational purposes.

They award five scholarships, yearly, of up to $2000 to deserving caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants don’t have to be associated with Griswold Home Care, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

Alzheimer’s Foundation of America The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure.

AFA provides several grant opportunities to their member organizations to help further their mission of providing support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide. The AARP® Purpose Prize award is a national award in the United States that celebrates people 50 and older who are using their life experience to make a difference. Through the Purpose Prize award, AARP celebrates the creativity, innovation, and inspiration that life experience brings. The program awards $100,000 each to five people in “encore careers” who are creating new ways to solve tough social problems.

Encore careers are those that combine personal meaning and social impact with continued work in the second half of life. Nominations are welcome from any organization or individual with knowledge of a potential candidate.

Retirement Research Foundation The RRF supports advancements in the field of aging specifically in the four categories: caregiving, economic security in later life, housing, and social and intergenerational connectedness. Each priority area will afford an opportunity for RRF to fund innovative and effective projects that support the ability of older people to live fully in community settings.

Within these areas, RRF will continue to award grants involving advocacy, direct service, professional education and training, research, and organizational capacity building. National Council On Aging While not a direct source for funding, the NCOA has many resources and tools for elders, caregivers, and professionals alike.

They offer information for older adults and their caregivers as well as online support for individuals to find benefits, choose a Medicare plan, prevent falls, and plan for a healthy and secure life. The Foundation supports emerging and unmet needs within the field of aging.

The foundation focuses its grantmaking on four areas: enabling older adults to remain in their homes and communities; improving the treatment of late-life depression; developing innovative responses to the family caregiving needs of older adults; and expanding the health care and broader workforce needed to care for, and serve, the rapidly growing and aging population.

The foundation has a focus on California, but will also consider demonstration projects with potential for replication in California or those that have a regional and/or national impact. Areas served: California, US The Ben & Jerry’s Foundation supports grassroots groups throughout the United States and its territories that organize for racial equity and social and environmental justice.

But specifically in Vermont, through their Community Action Team Program they fund organizations that address basic human needs (such as food, housing, health, elder and childcare) within Vermont’s under-served populations, including elders, youth, low-income and communities of color.

Areas served: Vermont, US The Eisner Foundation supports organizations in Los Angeles County and New York City offering intergenerational solutions to society’s greatest challenges.

They offer the following: general operating grants for unrestricted support, project support grants for specific projects or initiatives, capacity-building grants for training or planning, capital project grants for buying, constructing or renovating facilities, and opportunity grants.

Areas served: California (Los Angeles), New York (NYC) The Durham Foundation makes grants for research and technical assistance to organizations whose focus is improving or expanding agency capacity to serve older people.

They also make grants to organizations whose focus is on education and training in the following areas: training for persons who deliver services or manage programs for older people, resource centers as clearing houses of information and services for older people, development of curriculum on aging issues, programs that enable older people to make contributions to society.

Areas served: Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi Points32Health Foundation The Point32Health Foundation prioritizes healthy aging and access to healthy food. Their grants support organizations working to address systemic inequities and advance community solutions.

They focus on organizations that take an integrated approach to address food security and other fundamental needs—and to build thriving, welcoming communities—achieve better outcomes. Areas served: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island The Daniels Fund focuses on supporting highly effective and ethical nonprofit organizations that achieve significant results in the community.

One of their funding areas is “Aging,” with a desire for older adults to achieve maximum independence and quality of life through three strategies: in-home services, community engagement, and end-of-life/palliative care.

Areas served: Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah Isla Carroll Turner Friendship Trust he Isla Carroll Turner Friendship Trust supports nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Texas that provide services to the elderly.

Types of programs considered for funding include health centers, recreation programs, retirement services, Alzheimer’s initiatives, meal delivery programs, nursing facilities, etc. Support is also provided for primary caregiver education programs focusing on the elderly and nursing scholarships for students specializing in gerontology.

Central Indiana Senior Fund The mission of Central Indiana Senior Fund is to support programs and opportunities for low-to-moderate-income older adults in central Indiana, with a focus on under-served or isolated populations. Central Indiana Senior Fund continues a passion to assure that their community’s seniors have equitable access to basic needs and the ability to live with a sense of dignity and worth.

Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage The Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program is a New York State program for seniors administered by the Department of Health. It helps more than 325,000 income-eligible seniors aged 65 and older to supplement their out-of-pocket Medicare Part D drug plan costs.

Seniors can apply for EPIC at any time of the year and must be enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in a Medicare Part D drug plan to receive EPIC benefits and maintain coverage. Cash & Counseling Programs Cash & Counseling Programs are financial and care assistance programs.

They usually, but not always, are Medicaid programs, which provide the beneficiary with cash assistance and with the flexibility to “consumer direct” or “self-direct” the spending of the cash on care providers of their choosing. Most states have their own names for their Cash and Counseling Programs, typically associated with a specific Medicaid waiver.

Medicare beneficiaries can qualify for Extra Help paying for their monthly premiums, annual deductibles, and co-payments related to Medicare prescription drug coverage. The US Government estimates the Extra Help is worth about $5,100 per year. To qualify for Extra Help, you must be receiving Medicare and have limited resources and income.

You must also reside in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Forever Young Veterans has two programs: Trip of Honor, returning senior veterans on a trip to the places where they fought as well as Washington D. C.
