School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) Description: Provides funding directly to states, units of local government, Indian tribes, and public agencies (school districts, public boards of education, police departments, and sheriffs’ departments) to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the grantees’ jurisdictions through evidence-based school safety programs and technology.

Allowable expenses include: Active shooter response training or equipment, silent panic alarms, alert systems warning of dangerous individuals, and more.

Award amount are broken down into two categories: A formula-based grant of $2,500 or $4. 50 per student, whichever amount is greater. A program-based grant of up to $40,000 per district, regardless of the number of students.

FY24 Public School Security Grant Description : The budget period deadlines for both Tennessee grants were extended to June 30, 2025 to ensure that awardees have enough time to spend their awarded funds.
