m. on April 17 to submit requests for equipment, technology, apparel, and grants funded by the organization's foundation. Five football programs and five cheer programs will receive support this year.
Coaches, athletic directors, or administrative staff from Michigan high schools can apply for one football grant or one cheer grant through an online application at www. detroitlions. com/touchdown.
Meijer and Head & Shoulders support the program. A committee made up of members from the Lions organization and participating corporate partners will review submissions. "Our Touchdown in Your Town program allows us to reach all corners of the state of Michigan in support of the wellbeing and development of our youth," said Roxanne Caine, vice president of Detroit Lions Foundation and Community Relations, according to ABC12 .
"In year eight of this initiative, we look forward to providing another five football programs and five cheer programs with the funds and resources necessary to grow the game, as well as advocate for our students as both athletes and individuals." Once programs are picked, the team will surprise students and staff to reveal the new resources during a special experience.
Team representatives plan surprise school visits to announce the awards and share the new gear during a presentation, making what could be an ordinary school day into something students won't forget anytime soon. The program has put in more than $1 million since 2019. That's a lot of money helping Michigan students.
The initiative is in its third year of supporting high school cheer programs. Touchdown in Your Town is part of the franchise's $5 million investment in youth sports throughout the community, demonstrating how professional teams can give back to the next generation of athletes while strengthening connections with fans across the state.
The team aims to encourage safe participation and spark passion for football while giving every Michigan high school program a fair shot at success.
