Grant Guidelines – The Greehey Family Foundation The Greehey Family Foundation supports a broad range of community needs with a shared goal of improving the lives of Bexar County residents and beyond. To help ensure funding aligns with our mission and is used effectively, please review the following guidelines and requirements before submitting an application.

The Foundation may request a tour of your agency to better understand the project or program, observe who will be served, and assess the organization’s capacity to fulfill its objectives. Please confirm that your organization meets the following requirements: Grants are awarded only to organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Foundation does not award grants to individuals or for-profit organizations. In alignment with the Foundation’s mission, funding is primarily awarded to agencies providing programs and services in Bexar County. The Foundation may also consider requests from outside Bexar County when programs serve individuals from the greater San Antonio area.

Funding must directly support specific needs or programs within the community. The Foundation does not typically fund event sponsorships or fundraising activities.

Each grant application must include the following information: The organization’s purpose and history Proof of 501(c)(3) status Whether the organization is supported by United Way Description of the problem or need the program addresses Explanation of how the proposed effort supports the Foundation’s goals Program objectives and a timeline of proposed activities A detailed project and overall operations budget A list of current funders and funding amounts A list of the Board of Directors (if applicable) The amount requested from the Foundation Percentage of the amount requested relative to the program’s total and the organization’s overall budget A brief report on how the most recent grant from the Foundation was used (if applicable) The Foundation’s Board of Directors meets biannually to review applications and the review process may take up to three months following the submission deadline.

Applicants are asked to abide by the grant cycle schedule listed below. Requests for immediate or emergency funding are considered at the discretion of the Board.

Grant recipients may not publicly announce awards without prior approval from the Greehey Family Foundation. As part of the application process, agencies are required to submit a brief report detailing how the grant funds from the previous year were used and the outcomes achieved, when applicable. For multi-year pledges, other reporting may be required.

Frequently Asked Questions When are grant applications due? The Foundation reviews applications twice a year. Deadlines are April 1 for the Spring Funding Cycle and September 30 for the Fall Funding Cycle.

How far in advance should I submit my application? We recommend submitting your application several weeks before the deadline to ensure all required documents are included and to allow time for review. How long does it take to receive a decision?

The review/selection process may take up to three months following the submission deadline. Applicants will be notified once the Foundation's Board of Directors has made its funding decisions. Can I apply outside the regular funding cycles?

Requests outside of the designated deadlines are generally not accepted. However, urgent or emergency funding requests may be considered at the discretion of the Board. While the initial request can be emailed to admin@GreeheyFoundation.

org , the Board may also require the agency to submit a formal application. May I submit more than one grant application per year? No. The Foundation typically awards each agency one grant per year.

Organizations must reapply annually to be considered for additional funding. What happens if my application is incomplete or missing information? Incomplete applications may not be considered.
