This grant is designed to help small and medium businesses purchase and install new products and equipment that will help reduce business greenhouse gas emissions, cut utility costs, and improve energy efficiency.

Funding applications closed Cut carbon, cut costs A Green Business Grant is designed to help small and medium businesses and organisations purchase and install new products and equipment that reduce your carbon emissions, cut your utility costs and improve your energy efficiency. Applications must help you to achieve a measurable reduction in carbon emissions when compared to your current baseline emissions.

Grant was available first come, first served with a total of £2 million made available. Businesses could apply for a grant of up to £15,000. All projects are expected to take up to 6 months and must be completed and claimed by the end of March 2026 at the latest.

Applications closed on 24th October 2025. Applications are assessed on their own merit against set criteria and awards are made on a rolling basis throughout the grant round. Applications are closed.

When open, applicants must: Have a trading address in the Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol or South Gloucestershire local authority areas. Be able to provide suitable match funding for your project. Be a business such as a private limited company, sole trader, partnership, community interest company and community benefit society, or a registered charity or community amateur sports club.

Be a small or medium sized enterprise (SME) or organisation, this means you must not employ more than 249 people. Have had an independent energy or carbon assessment done that recommends the project you are applying for grant for.

The following organisations are not eligible to apply for this grant large businesses and businesses using cash-based accounting community groups, sports clubs, village halls and similar entities unless you are registered as one of the organisations above GPs, dentists, care homes, schools, colleges and similar publicly funded services private domestic landlords or businesses operating from buildings that are required by law to have a domestic Energy Performance Certificate Applications are now closed.

You can apply for a grant of up to £15,000. The minimum grant available is £200 for micro-organisations and £500 for small and medium organisations. Grants cover between 30% and 60% of eligible capital costs of purchase and installation.

The amount you can apply for varies depending on the items you are looking to buy. Full details can be found in the Grant Guidance for Applicants (PDF) . This is a grant and does not need to be repaid.

However, Green Business Grants are paid on defrayal. This means if you are successful in securing a grant, you must purchase and complete your project before claiming the funding you have been awarded. You should aim to do this within a 6-month claim window, although this can be extended in exceptional circumstances.

What can I use the Green Business Grant for? You can use a Green Business Grant to purchase and/or install materials, products and equipment that will result in a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in your business. Over £2 million of grant has been awarded under this scheme since 2019.

Previous applicants have used a grant for: LED lighting and better lighting controls solar photovoltaic panels roof, wall, pipe and technical component insulation solar film to reduce the need for air conditioning in the summer more efficient heating and better controls air compressors and variable speed drives to improve the efficiency of manufacturing and processing equipment.

Your application must be supported by an independent assessment that confirms that what you want to do is likely to reduce your carbon emissions, with estimated savings calculated and alternative options identified where possible. Our Carbon Surveys provide this advice free of charge , but you can also use a third-party consultant or assessor.
