Greening IU Indy Grant

Greening IU Indy Grant is sponsored by Indiana University Indianapolis (IU Indianapolis). This grant is awarded annually to projects that advance campus sustainability and help IU Indianapolis meet the goals outlined in the IU Climate Action Plan. It is open to students, faculty, or staff members with ideas to positively impact campus sustainability.

Submit your idea, and you could win a Greening IU Indy Grant to make it happen.

Greening IU Indy Grants are awarded one time per year to projects that advance campus sustainability and help IU Indianapolis meet the goals outlined in the IU Climate Action Plan . IU Indianapolis dedicates a total of $25,000 annually to fund these projects. Apply now until January 18th Current IU Indianapolis students, faculty, and staff are eligible to apply.

Students must have a faculty or staff member’s support and designate them as a project contact person on the application. Past Greening IU Indy Grant Winners Waste to Wings: A Sustainable Composting and Insect-Based Recycling Pilot at IU Awardee: Christine Picard, School of Science Project summary: Reduce food waste and promote sustainability at IU Indianapolis by implementing a black soldier fly composting system in SL, LD, EL, and IO Awardee: Mindy Cooper, Staff Council Project summary: Create a Tree Tender volunteer group to assist CFS Grounds with basic tree maintenance and care Awardee: Thanzeem Razark, Health and Wellness Promotion Project Summary: Expand Health and Wellness Promotion’s campus cleanup program from once a semester to a rolling basis Native Pollinator Nests : School of Science faculty member, Xianzhong Wang, will receive funding to establish six nests for native pollinators on campus in partnership with his students in Principles of Ecology and Evolution (BIOL-K341) and Global Change Biology (BIOL-K411).

Dept. of Surgery Laboratory Sustainability : Clinical Research Specialist, John Brokaw, will receive funding for sub-metering and data logging equipment to track energy consumption in order to establish an energy baseline for the IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery.

Sustainable Laundry in Residence Halls : IU Indy Student & Sustainable Landscapes Intern, Abby Weinschrott, will receive funding to pilot a sustainable laundry detergent dispenser in University Tower in partnership with Housing and Residence Life.

Stark Laboratory Sustainability : The Stark Neurosciences Research Institute Sustainability Committee will receive funding for outlet timers to reduce energy usage of individual equipment and for signage to encourage behavior change in laboratory spaces.

Sustainable Office Kits : The Staff Council Sustainability Committee will receive funding to create ten sustainable office supplies kits that will be used to recruit new Green Teams across campus.
