This small-grants program provides up to $10,000 USD per group, along with mentorship, capacity building, and communications support to help young changemakers grow sustainable, community-centered initiatives. The Growing Roots Grant invests in new and emerging youth-led projects—initiatives no older than one year—that strengthen community resilience, advance political influence, and build grassroots power.
Grants will be awarded to 8–10 groups. In addition to funding, grantees receive: Ongoing coaching from Roots staff Tailored capacity-building workshops (organizing, storytelling, communications, evaluation, etc.) Communications and media amplification via Roots channels The program supports youth-led groups (majority ages 18–35 ) from: Applications are also welcomed from diaspora and BIPOC communities based in the Global North.
Groups do not need to be legally registered. Projects must be executed collectively, not by a single individual. What Types of Projects Are Funded The 2026 cycle focuses on three impact areas: 1.
Strategic Dialogue & Narrative Building Initiatives that create space for dialogue in polarized contexts—countering misinformation, strengthening community relationships, and building bridges between communities, institutions, authorities, or coalitions. 2.
Advocacy-Oriented Initiatives Projects aiming to influence policies or legislation, or to drive changes in municipal or local governance through advocacy, research, or civic engagement. 3. Community Autonomy Initiatives Efforts that develop community-owned infrastructure, systems, and resources to strengthen long-term autonomy, resilience, and local power structures.
What the Application Includes Applicants will be asked to provide: Information about the group (region, age range, contact details, type of work) A description of the project, goals, target beneficiaries, and community relationship A short video introducing the applicant(s), the motivation, and the story behind the project Roots accepts applications in English or Spanish .
