Safety Grant Application - GSBA Empowering Schools to Create Safe Learning Environments – Apply for the GSBA Safety Grant! Application Window: Closed Applications accepted August 4, 2025 - October 7, 2025. GSBA’s Risk Management Services department is proud to offer the Safety Grant, a vital opportunity for schools to enhance the safety and security of their learning environments.

This grant is designed to provide financial assistance to schools in implementing innovative safety measures, improving existing safety protocols, and fostering a secure atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors.

Through the Safety Grant, schools can access funds to support a wide range of safety initiatives, including but not limited to, upgrading security systems, conducting safety training programs, enhancing emergency preparedness, and addressing specific safety concerns unique to their environments. Our goal is to empower schools to proactively address safety challenges and ensure a protected, thriving educational community.

General Information Guidelines and Rules Application Consideration Selection Criteria Maximum Grant : $5,000 maximum per grant limit Applications available: Monday, August 4th Application deadline: Tuesday, October 7th Grants will be awarded at the GSBA-RMS Annual Conference in Athens, Georgia on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 For those selected for the grants, deadline for submitting all required documents to GSBA-RMS is: Friday, April 3rd, 2026 Eligibility : Only school districts who are members in the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) Risk Management Services (RMS), one or both funds, are eligible to apply.

The application packet will be sent via email to superintendents, safety directors, and primary contacts only at each of our Risk Management Services member districts. One (1) grant application per school district. Previous grant recipients are eligible to submit applications.

Grant applications will be evaluated on a comparative basis. However, if grant proposals do not provide sufficient potential savings, GSBA-RMS reserves the right not to award grants. Grants will be awarded on a reimbursement basis only.

Grant funds cannot be used to reimburse equipment, training, or services purchased prior to the date the grant is awarded. Grant funds cannot be used to pay salaries for employees. All proposals for activities, training (including travel expenses), and/or equipment that contribute to a potential reduction in property & liability losses, employee safety, or build overall risk management awareness for members will be considered.

Applications will be scored against others for the maximum benefit in the reduction of potential losses. The application must be relevant to the coverage the district purchases from GSBA-RMS.

For example, a bus safety application will not be considered if the district does not have auto coverage with GSBA-RMS. Similarly, an application for employee safety will not be considered if the district is not in our Workers’ Compensation Fund. Members can allocate the total grant towards one coverage line or divide it across multiple coverages.

Funding and Project Completion : If the application involves combining grant money with additional local funds, a full explanation of the project funding must be provided. All purchases must be completed prior to the deadline. Such applications are rarely considered.
