23 KidsFlash , Outreach , Legislative , K-12 Education Colorado’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) is offering awards up to $50,000 for projects that advance its goals, including educating communities about extreme risk protection orders, promoting best practices in the safe storage of firearms, and developing trainings, programs, and resources for law enforcement and priority communities.
A variety of organizations and entities working in gun violence prevention and intervention initiatives that advance the goals of OGVP are eligible to be considered for its mini-grant program. For priority consideration, applications should be completed by 6 p. m.

In June 2021, Gov. Polis signed HB21-1299 to establish the OGVP in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). The purpose of the office is to coordinate and promote effective strategies to reduce gun violence and related traumas; educate Coloradans on safe gun handling and storage; and promote research and evidence-based responses to gun violence.
