Virginia Union University Selected to Receive “HBCU Promise” Grant by Dominion Energy | Virginia Union University Virginia Union University Selected to Receive “HBCU Promise” Grant by Dominion Energy Virginia Union University RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Union University is proud to be selected as a recipient of a higher education equity initiative grant by Dominion Energy.
The University will be awarded a portion of the $35 Million dollars in funding over six-years. “I applaud Dominion Energy for being responsive to the conversation of race and social injustice by creating ways to promote equality in higher education and economic mobility,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President & CEO of Virginia Union University.
“We have enjoyed an enriching partnership with Dominion Energy for many years. I want to especially thank VUU Trustee Diane Leopold for her assistance in making this award possible. ” Eleven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina were selected to receive the six-year “HBCU Promise” funding.
The program will provide $25 million in funding to select institutions and $10 million in scholarships to support African American and underrepresented minority students across Dominion Energy’s service territory. In structuring the partnerships, the company will work with each institution to determine where the funds will be most beneficial in the areas ofoperating needs, urgent capital needs, endowment, and scholarships.
