This grant supports comprehensive early childhood education services for young children (6 weeks to 4 years old) and pregnant mothers, with a focus on kindergarten readiness and specialized services for children with disabilities, utilizing developmental screenings.

Jefferson Community Action Programs (JeffCAP) Head Start Birth to Five Program Head Start Birth to Five Program JeffCAP Head Start Birth to Five Program offers free Early Childhood Education services to children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old and pregnant mothers. We are a center-based program and classes are held five days per week at all centers. Nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack are served daily.

Our program is widely recognized for its comprehen­sive approach to preparing children to be ready to enter kindergarten. In addition, Head Start B-5 teachers are highly-qualified with degrees and credentials in Early Childhood Education. We provide services for children with disabilities.

We work with families to ensure children have the skills necessary to smoothly transition to Kindergarten. We provide developmental screening including Mental Health, Vision and Hearing screenings. All JeffCAP Head Start B-5 centers are licensed through the Louisiana Department of Education Division of Licensing.

In 2012, the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 3, the Early Care and Education Act. Act 3 requires the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to create a unified system to manage all publicly funded early childhood programs. To begin this process, the Louisiana Department of Education selected communities around the state to become Early Childhood Network Pilots.

The Jefferson Collaborative became an Early Childhood Network Pilot in the spring of 2014. All publicly funded early childhood programs must comply with the requirements of Act 3. Serves children from birth to three years old, pregnant women, and their families utilizing the same comprehensive approach as Head Start.

Our program is committed to providing every young child with a nurturing, language-rich, stimulating environment with the idea that the earliest intervention reaps the biggest rewards. Serves children three to five and engages parents as equal partners with their child's teacher ensuring positive growth and development both at school and at home.

Instructions to Apply for Early Head Start/Head Start Complete the Schoolmint Application online through the Jefferson Parish Schools Early Childhood website . All information and documentation is required to submit a complete application. You will be notified if your child has been accepted into the program.

Family Service Specialist are available year-round to complete application for our program. If at any time Schoolmint website (application) is unavailable, please seek assistance from a Family Service Specialist at the center/site of your choice for alternate application submittal.
