AHRQ is interested in funding research in all clinical settings—acute care, long-term care, and ambulatory care—in accordance with the framework established by the Department of Health and Human Services' National Action Plan to Prevent Health Care-Associated Infections: Road Map to Elimination and the research agenda of the Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Action Plan .
Current research areas of interest are: Preventing the occurrence of healthcare-associated infections in the first place. Preventing the spread of harmful or drug-resistant bacteria. Improving the appropriate use of antibiotics, including promoting antibiotic stewardship.
AHRQ funding is available for research on HAI prevention and combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Two grant types are available for each research topic: Large research grants (R01) Health services research demonstration and dissemination projects (R18) Each of these grant types is eligible for up to $500,000 per year in funding for a maximum of 5 years.
