Note for Vermont Applicants: We are no longer accepting insulated skirting projects for Vermonters. The community action agencies in Vermont offer excellent and comprehensive weatherization services, which includes insulating under trailers. The majority of the work we do is accessibility ramp installation and roof replacements (one story roofs only) . In addition, we install fall prevention devices like grab bars and railings. During the winter, we also deliver our weatherization services to help seal a home against cold air drafts and we do furnace cleanings.

These energy conservation services help save heating fuel and make the homes warmer. What work is suitable for volunteers? Carpentry that does not require a license (no electrical or plumbing).

For roofing work, we can only work on single story roofs. What is the income limit to receive services? Homeowners need to income qualify.

An urgent need could be, for example, a roof that is currently leaking, holes in a floor, uneven and deteriorating stairs, or when mobility is restricted and someone is unable to leave or enter their home safely. Unfortunately, COVER cannot address emergency situations due to limitations in our process. How does a homeowner participate in the work? Homeowner participation looks different for everyone. We ask for homeowners to participate in opening introductions, lunch and closing reflections.

In some cases if ability allows, a homeowner might be involved in the project as a volunteer. In other cases, homeowners will spend time chatting with volunteers and staff. Homeowners often will provide lunch to the volunteers and staff.

When will the work on my home be completed? For outdoor home repairs: Once an application is submitted, COVER will reach out to schedule a site visit to confirm if and how we might be able to help you. Once we confirm that work is suitable, we will schedule a work day(s) during our home repair season (March through November).

Outdoor work is weather dependent. For indoor home repairs and weatherization: Once an application is submitted, COVER will reach out to schedule a site visit to confirm if and how we might be able to help you. Once we confirm that work is suitable, we will schedule a work day(s) during our home repair season (December through February).

Who pays for COVER services? Funding comes primarily from the COVER Store, private grants and donations from various foundations and individuals as well as various religious, civic, and school organizations. We also receive some support from local town budgets.

We do ask homeowners to make a contribution to the cost of materials but if a homeowner is unable to make a contribution it does not affect their application. Volunteer for an urgent Home Repair or Weatherization project in your community!
