Home Repair Program (Habitat for Humanity affiliates) is sponsored by Various local Habitat for Humanity affiliates (e.g., Wichita Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln). Many local Habitat for Humanity affiliates offer home repair programs to assist low-income homeowners with critical repairs, including roofs, to address health and safety issues and allow them to age in place.

Home Repair Program | Wichita Habitat for Humanity Keeping Homeowners Safe and Healthy in Their Homes. Wichita Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair Program partners with income-eligible homeowners experiencing critical interior and exterior issues that threaten the health, safety, and accessibility of their homes. These repairs can address deferred maintenance, sudden damage, or everyday wear and tear.

Our focus is on essential health and safety concerns, accessibility modifications for seniors and people with disabilities, housing code compliance, and safeguarding the overall structural integrity of the residence. Your application will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the program and whether you qualify for grant assistance and/or a zero percent (0%) interest loan to cover all or a portion of the cost of repairs. Jim, Home Repair Program Homeowner Wichita Habitat for Humanity has requirements that you must meet in order to be eligible for repair assistance. Please be advised that the following list does not include all requirements for this program and it is subject to change at any time at the discretion of the program's administration. Your home must be located in Sedgwick County, KS.

All persons on the deed must agree to participate as applicants in the Home Repair Program. At least one applicant for this program must occupy the home as their primary residence. At least one homeowner on the deed must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

You must be current on the home's property taxes, mortgage payments and utilities. You must have homeowners insurance or a recent denial letter (within last 90 days) from your insurance company with an explanation of denial for coverage. All rooms in the home, and the area around the exterior of the home, must be accessible for a home inspection .

Homeowners' must be willing to 'partner' with Wichita Habitat for Humanity, willing to gather necessary documentation to determine your income eligibility, communicate with Wichita Habitat staff and our contractors, allow access to your home, maintain homeowners insurance, speak to others about your Wichita Habitat experience, etc. Your home must be on a permanent foundation . You cannot be running a business out of your home.

Your home must demonstrate a need for home repair per Minimum Housing Quality Standards, but not exceed the program's maximum amount for home repairs. (Don't worry, we will figure this one out!) Your household income cannot exceed 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI) shown in the table on the webpage.

Wichita Habitat for Humanity provides both the repair and the financing needed to cover the cost of the work. This means that Wichita Habitat will act as the contractor and the lender. We offer a fixed zero-percent (0%) interest loan and/or grant assistance on a sliding scale based on the household income.

The gross household income (all household members 18 years of age and over will be considered) must fall below 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI) based on HUD Income Guidelines for the current year as shown in the HUD Annual Gross Household Income Limits. How much is the processing fee for all projects? There is a $150 application processing fee for all projects.

You will need to pay $35 when you submit your application. The remaining $115 will be due when you sign a contract for repairs to be performed on your home. What is the minimum credit score to qualify for this program?

Credit scores are not a requirement for this program, though other requirements do apply and are referenced in the Request for Assistance form. How does the Area Median Income affect my payments? There are no additional payment requirements for households below 35% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

However, homeowners with income between 36-100% of AMI will need to pay for a percentage of the repair costs. The exact percentage depends on the total household income as shown in the HUD Annual Gross Household Income Limits.

If applicable, payments on a zero-percent (0%) interest loan with Wichita Habitat for Humanity will begin the month following the completion of the project and will be paid through equal monthly installments over a period of one (1) to 15 years. Is this loan a second mortgage or a reverse mortgage? Loans that are $5,000 or greater from Wichita Habitat for Humanity will be considered as a second mortgage to the homeowner.

How do I know if this is the right program for me? If you have deferred maintenance needs, but you are not sure if this program is the right fit, we can assist you in this process! We understand getting a repair can be overwhelming.

Our request for assistance form guides you through questions about the current state of your home. If you are selected to move forward with the program after determining you are eligible from a financial perspective, we send our Home Repair team to meet with you to go through your home and repair needs. Often, our staff may even see repairs you were not aware were necessary.

Our staff will balance what you request with what your home needs to remain a safe and healthy place to live. This program is aimed at addressing large repairs that are necessary to keep your home in good working order.
