Home Repair Program

Home Repair Program is sponsored by Habitat for Humanity Omaha. This program offers no-interest loans to qualified homeowners for a variety of home improvement projects and energy-efficiency upgrades. Habitat Omaha serves as the general contractor and all work includes a 1-year warranty.

Habitat Omaha Home Repair Program Home improvement projects and energy-efficiency upgrades for homeowners in five counties across the Omaha Metro. If you have home maintenance needs and you’re not sure how you can afford the repair, you’re in the right place. Last year, we completed over 175 home repairs, many of them in historically underserved communities.

Through the Habitat Home Repair Program, we partner with qualified homeowners on a variety of projects, from critical to minor repairs.

Examples of home improvement projects: If you are experiencing a critical home repair or urgent repair need (total mechanical failure of air conditioner, furnace, water heater, etc.) Please call: Windows and doors – repair or replacement Electrical system upgrades Tree trimming and removal Exterior structures, such as siding repair or accessibility updates Energy Efficiency repairs and improvements through OPPD Energy Efficiency Assistance Program If you live in Washington or Burt Counties, you can apply for home repair help for the following home improvements: furnace, air conditioning, water heaters Habitat Omaha helps with home repairs in the following counties: Douglas , Sarpy , Washington , Cass and Burt Qualified homeowners receive a no-interest loan to help pay for the necessary repairs.

You do not need to own a Habitat home to qualify. As the lender, Habitat allows homeowners to spread the home repair project expense over 1-10 years. Habitat Omaha serves as the general contractor, hiring only subcontractors we know and trust.

All home repairs and improvement work includes a 1-year warranty through Habitat Omaha. Habitat works on home repairs for seniors and homeowners of all ages and backgrounds. We want to help families like yours maintain and remain in your home.

Who qualifies for the Habitat Owner must demonstrate the ability to repay the no-interest loan Owners typically must have a household income that does not exceed 80% of the current median income for the area.

Owner must have homeowners insurance upon project completion Owner must hold clear title to the property House must be owner-occupied and in Douglas County or surrounding counties Must be a single-family, detached home (no duplexes, apartments, etc.) Cannot be gaining equity from property and/or own several properties Property taxes must be current Willingness to partner with Habitat Omaha What to Expect During a Habitat Home Repair Complete the online interest form, call our office at 402-457-5657 option 3 or email homerepair@habitatomaha.

org . Habitat staff will use that information to determine your eligibility. The Habitat Project Manager will contact you and visit your home for a 30-60 minute assessment process.

Our team works closely with all homeowners to ensure they’re comfortable with the process start to finish. It takes approx. 1-2 weeks to receive bids back from our trusted subcontractors .

We encourage homeowners to be actively involved in this decision-making process, and our home repair team will be there to guide and support so no one feels overwhelmed. Step 4: Closing & Project Start Step 4: Closing & Project Start Homeowner works with Habitat to provide additional paperwork and close on the zero interest loan. Then work can begin!

All home repairs are completed by licensed professionals under the supervision of Habitat’s experienced staff. Step 5: Project Completion & Final Inspection Step 5: Project Completion & Final Inspection The Project manager will schedule a final inspection of the contracted home repair and provide education and resources for continuing to care for the home.

Douglas or Sarpy County Home Repairs Washington, Cass or Burt County Home Repairs The Veterans Home Repair program offers essential repairs to improve the health and safety conditions of a home, which can include fixing or replacing materials, reconfiguring spaces, making accessibility modifications, replumbing and updating mechanical or electrical systems. Veterans can use the same online form above to apply for home repairs.
