Human Services Agency Funding is sponsored by City of Renton. The City of Renton allocates funding every two years to agencies providing social services and assistance to Renton residents. The program is part of the Human Services Funding Collaborative with other King County cities, using the Share1App for applications.

This collaboration, known as the Human Services Funding Collaborative (HSFC), includes the cities of Auburn, Bellevue, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kent, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Shoreline, and Tukwila. The city has allocated $812,000 in annual funding for 2025-2026, the same amount as in the previous funding cycle.

The application is open to organizations and non-profits that serve Renton by providing the following: Basic Needs: Food, clothing, housing stability services (such as rent and/or utility assistance), legal services, and meal programs. Connector Services: Information and referral, transportation, advocacy, case management, cultural navigators, and other services that connect residents to services.

Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Services: Services related to sexual assault and domestic violence, including legal assistance and shelter. Economic Opportunity/Self Sufficiency: Job training involving programs that help individuals with barriers to employment or other forms of economic opportunity, youth programs, mentoring, and after-school programs.

Health and Wellness: Physical, mental, and dental health services, counseling, therapy, day health programs, and chore services. Homeless Services/Housing: Shelters, homeless outreach, transitional housing, and emergency housing. Applications will be available on March 4 via the online portal Share1App hosted by the City of Redmond.

There will be a tentatively scheduled workshop to support organizations through the application process on March 4 and March 5. Applications must be submitted via the online portal on April 8. To receive notifications about the application process, please email share1appquestions@gmail.

com . To be considered for Renton funding, agencies must meet the following criteria: Address one of Renton's funding priorities mentioned above. Submit a complete application, including all attachments.

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted or reviewed. Meet the minimum insurance requirements if awarded funds. Execute a contract with the city and be able to accept reimbursement for funds.

Regularly track and submit required reports concerning services, outcomes, and demographics. Once submitted, the city’s Human Services Advisory Committee, consisting of 11 appointed volunteers, will review and evaluate all applications. The Committee will rate proposals within each priority area based on program description, impact, accessibility, and budget.

Funding recommendations will depend on the Committee scores, discussion, funding availability, and final approval by the Renton City Council. The awarded amount for individual programs may differ from the requested amount in the application. Agencies will be notified of funding recommendations in the fall of 2024, with the fiscal and program year commencing on January 1, 2025.

D on Persson Renton Senior Activity Center closed due to water leak The recent cold temperatures unfortunately affected the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, causing a water leak over the weekend. The facility was closed Tuesday, January 16, through Wednesday, January 17, to repair the Fire Suppression System and test the repairs.

New venue location for Pongal celebration; Moved to Renton Community Center With the closure of Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center this week due to the recent water leak, the community Pongal event has moved to the Renton Community Center this weekend. Pongal is an event hosted by residents who are part of the Tamil community.

The Tamil community invites Renton to celebrate the free Pongal Harvest Festival on Saturday, January 20, from 1:30 to 5 p. m. in the banquet room at the Renton Community Center.

Pongal is a joyous celebration of the bounties of the harvest and a spirit of togetherness cherished by the Tamil people. com. 2024 LTAC-funded applicants bring a diversified range of events to Renton During last week’s Committee of the Whole, Community Economic Development (CED) presented allocation details of the 2024 Lodging Tax Funding to council. For 2024, 21 applications, including five new proposals, were submitted before the application process concluded on October 23, 2023.

The awarded total funds amounted to $447,500. Notably, eight new project proposals and applications were received from three organizations that had never previously applied for or received funding. The selected events reflect diverse activities, including cultural celebrations, niche-focused conventions, professional networking events, and public festivals.

These events offer an exciting opportunity for Renton to boost tourism and introduce new experiences for residents.

The scheduled events for this year include: City events through Parks and Recreation Department : Renton Rivers Day, Renton Farmers Market, and Winter Lights A series of events hosted by AmPowering, including the North America Fashion Week, Global Women Festival, and Festival of Lights Polynesian Festival hosted by Emerald Dynasty Entertainment Renton City Retro hosted by HighSchool.

This fund, generated through a 1% tax on hotel, motel, and other lodging-related sales, is earmarked for programs dedicated to promoting tourism. As outlined in the Revised Code of Washington, recipients are required to target tourists from at least 50 miles away, stimulate overnight stays in Renton, and contribute to the city's economic growth.

Renton City Council has created a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) to conduct an annual process to solicit and recommend Lodging Tax-funded services for City Council consideration. The next round of funding will be available for events occurring in 2025. Applications for the 2025 funding round will open in late summer.

How to prepare and stay informed when cold weather strikes We may have escaped a major snow and ice storm last weekend, but winter weather is in full effect.

Keep these reminders stored safe for the next winter event. Streets and Road Condition Maintenance: In a snowstorm, plows will work four staggered 12-hour shifts to keep plows on the roads 24 hours a day. Primary and secondary arterials will be prioritized before neighborhoods.

Trucks are assigned to a specific location in the city and follow a priority mapping system for that area. Republic Services: If garbage and recyclables are missed due to hazardous conditions, Republic Services will collect them on Saturday (weather permitting), and organics will be picked up on the next collection day.

City Facilities: Facilities managed by our Parks and Recreation Department operate on the same snow schedules as Renton School District. Affected facilities include Renton Community Center, Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, and Highlands Neighborhood Center.
