Humanities Faculty Research Grant (University of Rhode Island) is sponsored by The University of Rhode Island, Center for the Humanities. Grants are available to tenure-track faculty and ad hoc continuing lecturers in the humanities at the University of Rhode Island to assist with specific research costs such as travel to archives, technology purchases, translation payments, and obtaining documents for study.

Humanities Faculty Research Grants – Center for the Humanities Grants are available to assist tenure-track faculty and ad hoc continuing lecturers in the humanities who expect to incur specific research costs, such as costs associated with travel to archives, the purchase of technology, payment for translations, and obtaining documents for study. Attendance at scholarly conferences will not be considered as an eligible cost.

Research grants are awarded for amounts up to $1,000 per year. Emeritus and adjunct professors are not eligible. Preference will be given to new submissions rather than funding the same project twice within the same fiscal year.

Applicants who have previously received a grant from the Center and have not yet submitted a funding report are not eligible.

The primary criteria upon which the grants will be awarded include: The significance of the project to knowledge in the specific field; The significance of the project to the knowledge of the humanities in general; The quality of the project, including its originality and clarity, The quality of the budget, including its clarity and specificity.

Applications for Spring 2026 grants may be submitted to InfoReady starting February 2 and are due by March 2. Please submit your application to the Center’s Director using the electronic grant application .

Your application should include the following: The title of your project, your name, phone number, address, e-mail, and department; An explanation of the scope of your project and its importance for furthering knowledge in your specific field and for the humanities in general and include a timetable for completing research (three pages maximum) ; A brief curriculum vitae (three pages maximum) ; A detailed budget outlining how Center funds are to be spent.

If research expenses exceed the amount the Center will provide, please explain where else you are seeking or have secured funding. Proposals that do not include all requested information will not be funded. Not sure if your project is a humanities project?
