IAMSE-ScholarRx Student Educational Research Grant - International Association of Medical Science Educators - IAMSE Programs & Services > Student Research Grants The International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) is pleased to announce the “IAMSE-ScholarRx Educational Research Grant” Program.
The purpose of this program is to promote innovative student educational research and scholarship relevant to the mission of IAMSE. IAMSE strives to advance health profession education through teacher development and to ensure that the teaching and learning of medical science continues to be firmly grounded in foundational sciences and the best practices of teaching.
This is done by: providing multidisciplinary, interprofessional, and cross-cultural forums for discussion of issues affecting medical science education and educators; designing and evaluating current and innovative means to teach the sciences fundamental to health professions, and sharing the results for the development of all health professions educators and; serving as an international voice to enhance appreciation of the crucial role of medical sciences in health and health care.
Up to four (4) student grants will be awarded for up to $2500 each. All awarded funds must be used during the two-year grant period. Eligibility & Requirements This grant is intended to support student work; therefore, project activities should be feasible to complete during the applicant’s enrollment period.
Students must be members of IAMSE to apply for this grant. *A student is defined as a person who is enrolled in a degree/certificate program (such as BS, MS, PA, PharmD, PhD, MD, DO) at a school or other institution. Trainees are not eligible to apply.
A trainee is defined as an individual who is conducting research or is undergoing further full-time supervised training after completion of a doctoral (or equivalent) degree, including postdocs, interns, residents, fellows, etc. Each submission must include: A faculty support letter confirming adherence to all grant policies.
An institutional letter confirming funding for the student to present project results at the IAMSE conference within three years of the award date. Any scholarship (e.g., publications, posters) resulting from IAMSE-funded research must acknowledge the ScholarRx-IAMSE Student Educational Research Grant on the work.
If the research involves human subjects, a letter of approval from the host Institutional Review Board stating that the project has been approved or that approval was not required will be required before funds are disbursed. All funded projects must submit IRB approval or exemption paperwork within 90 days of receiving notification; otherwise, the award will be rescinded.
Your application must contain each of the following application components: Budget Worksheet and Justification Statement of Dissemination Intent Grants must be received by the January 15 deadline to be considered for review and possible funding. ** Most institutions require grant applications to be routed through Sponsored Research or comparable offices for internal processing and signatures BEFORE submission.
Allow time to complete these steps ahead of the deadline. ** The Student Professional Development Committee will review the grant submissions, make final decisions, and present the grant awardee(s) to the IAMSE Executive Board. Reviewers may not be mentors of the submission under consideration.
Funded submissions will be announced via email and will be recognized at the IAMSE annual conference. Grant applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria: The project demonstrates innovation and clear relevance to the mission of IAMSE. The project includes a clear statement of project goals and objectives.
The need is clearly described and supported with references to relevant literature. The research methods are appropriate to address the specific aims and objectives. The outcomes are clearly defined and will be assessed using appropriate and effective measurement methods.
The outcomes are likely to apply to others. The project is feasible given the budget and resources. The timeline is realistic and the majority of the project activities will be completed during the applicant’s enrollment period.
The budget is appropriate and is well justified. The student investigator and mentor are qualified to complete the study. The dissemination plan is appropriate.
Required Reports for Funded Projects The Student Investigator must submit a report at the end of the grant cycle year 1 (June) to the Student Professional Development Committee and a final report within 3 months of the end of the 2-year grant funding (September 15) or sooner if the project has been completed.
