Artificial Intelligence for Global Health is a seven-year, CAD 22. 3 million initiative from Canada's IDRC and the UK's FCDO that funds researchers based in the Global South to strengthen health systems using contextualized, responsible AI.
Two thematic priorities are named: improving sexual, reproductive and maternal health for women and girls, and supporting more effective and equitable preparedness and response to epidemics and pandemics.
The contextualized framing matters and should shape any application - AI4GH is not looking to import models trained on high-income-country data, but to fund solutions developed with and for the health systems where they will run, with gender equality and inclusion treated as design requirements rather than reporting categories.

The initiative is structured around regional hubs, implementation research networks, and commercialization pathways rather than a single grant competition, which means the route in varies by region and by stage - a research team, an implementation partner and a team with a product to scale may each enter through a different door.
IDRC does not publish individual grant sizes for AI4GH, and at time of writing the IDRC open-calls page listed no active AI4GH competition, so the initiative currently operates through targeted calls and hub-level processes rather than a standing open application.
