Department of War organization. Information Processing Techniques Office About the Information Processing Techniques Office The Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) creates technological surprise through groundbreaking information science, technology development, and the delivery of fundamentally new information capabilities for national security.
AI innovation and Execution We envision vastly more energy-efficient and assured AI systems to advance asymmetric capabilities at the edge of the network and to provide trustworthy, understandable AI to warfighters where and when they need it. We also seek to mitigate risks of misalignment of machine actions and human interests.
Inherent Security and Privacy We seek to create a new generation of systems that are inherently secure, and inherently private, together with security and privacy tools that are more effective and more adaptable – both in the moving target and reactive senses – than current solutions.
We aim to develop more trustworthy and resilient systems based on the fundamental principles of the cyber networking, computing, and storage environment, and to create an asymmetric advantage in cyberspace.
We aim to develop machine-derived abstractions and models that expose the governing principles of highly complex and interconnected systems – like supply chains and power grids – to identify hidden systemic risks and emergent properties, and to enable the precise targeting of interventions and the proactive assurance of mission-critical functions.

SBIR SF254-D1206: Knowledge-Guided Test and Evaluation Frameworks for proliferated Low Earth Orbit Constellations is sponsored by U.S. Air Force. DOD SBIR topic SF254-D1206: Knowledge-Guided Test and Evaluation Frameworks for proliferated Low Earth Orbit Constellations. Component: U.S. Air Force. Command: SDA. Solicitation: DoD SBIR 2025.4. Phase(s): D2PII, II, SPII. Status: Pre-Release. Open date: 3/4/2026.
On June 3, 2026, four DARPA Biological Technologies Office SBIR topics close simultaneously — SWiFT, BARK, EXPOSITION, and Medical Swarm Robotics. Combined Phase I plus Phase II potential exceeds $6 million per company, and together they sketch a coherent strategy of distributed, autonomous, dual-species combat casualty care that depends on small businesses, not primes, to actually build.
Read articleDPA26BZ06-DV026 offers $300,000 at Phase I or $1,800,000 as a single Direct-to-Phase-II tranche with no options. The deliverable is a simulated auction market that measures whether AI agents deceive, collude, or manipulate the humans they serve — measured entirely from the outside. Here is the 90% efficiency gate, the team composition most bidders will get wrong, and why this topic sits in DARPA's biology office.
Read articleDARPA pre-released Release 6 of its FY26 SBIR BAA on September 2, 2026. Five of the seven SBIR topics belong to the Biological Technologies Office, and four of those describe one continuous problem: keeping a casualty alive with no surgeon, no imaging, and no evacuation. Here are the award sizes, the Direct-to-Phase-II gates, and the sequencing DARPA is buying.
