Initiative on Pedagogical Uses of Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) - The Red House Initiative on Pedagogical Uses of Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) As of Spring 2024, more than $220,000 had been awarded to support 50+ projects for curriculum, research, and student “X-grants” 60+ faculty and student participants from disciplines across Georgetown Key themes of these projects are inclusive pedagogy, scalable feedback, adaptive learning, and student partnership Launched in 2023, Georgetown’s Initiative on Pedagogical Applications of AI (IPAI) supports faculty, researchers, and students in exploring how AI can ethically and meaningfully enhance teaching and learning.

Through micro grants, community-building, and public dialogue, IPAI empowers our academic community to experiment with tools, examine AI’s implications, and co-create new models for the future of education. IPAI is co-led by Dr. Randy Bass, VP of Strategic Educational Innovation Initiatives and Directof of the Red House and the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) Executive Director, Eddie Maloney.

Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship Following the second call for applications, IPAI has funded more than 50 projects spanning disciplines from medicine and philosophy to business and computer science. These projects explored: Inclusive AI : From bias detection to equity-centered assessments, faculty used AI to question and reimagine fair learning environments.

Scalable Feedback : Tools like AI-generated assessment comments enhanced feedback in high-enrollment courses. Adaptive Learning : AI personalized learning experiences using wearable sensors, generative LLMs, and dynamic simulations. Student-Led Innovation : Students developed tools ranging from healthcare solutions to AI-powered advising assistants.

This cohorts emphasized experimentation, co-learning, and the ethical use of AI, revealing both the promise and limitations of emerging tools.
